How long should it take for an appointment for this clinic after a first seizure?

well unfortunately after my first seizure it took my mum threatening my GP that she would report her after months of asking for a hospital referral before I finally got an appointment and months of tests for a diagnosis of epilepsy. So a total of 8months and an apology from my GP and a nurse at the hospital for the bad treatment I received. Sorry but it’s the truth and this started in 2009. I really hope based on where you live, your hospital will do a better job for you. Good luck X

Hi Dawn43,

the National Institute for Health Care Excellence (NICE) guidelines say that first seizure clinic appointment should happen within 2 weeks of your GP or A and E making a referral:epilepsy.org.uk/right-treat....

But these are guidelines not law and we know appointments are taking longer. And in some areas the wait is longer than others.

You can use the NHS Planned Care website to check waiting times in your area: myplannedcare.nhs.uk/. Your GP may be able to get some advice for you if you need this.

But we know it's difficult when the waiting times are so long.

If there's anything you'd like to talk through you'd be welcome to call or message us at the Helpline: epilepsy.org.uk/support-for...
