29/11/12 I had my first GnRH injection to temporarily shut my ovaries down. Today I feel like crap (headaches, tired, drained and totally washed out). I was wondering if any connection??? Any info appreciated x

Hi

Very likely connected. My main side effect with these injections is the headaches and general washed out feeling. Obviously it's horrible, but on the other hand, it's an indication that it's probably doing its job.

You can get add back HRT to help out with the side effects but I find that this makes me feel worse.

So sorry you're suffering, It's not much fun :(

I'm considering going on GNRH to help shrink fibroids for 3 months before my surgery. How was your experience. I'm a scared about taking them and possible long term effects and trying to work out if the benefits weigh out the negatives.

I'd say do it.

The first few times I had the injections I felt absolutely brilliant. I had minor hot flushes but the relief from the constant, unremitting pain was just fantastic. In later years that's changed presumably because my body has changed as it's aged; I get quite bad headaches with them now and the mood swings are more pronounced, but that being said I would still take them if it was necessary. A couple of years ago my remaining ovary which had previously been quiet for years sprung a large cyst completely out of the blue. The state of my insides means that surgery is really a last resort, so my gynae put me on a 6 month course of Zoladex to see if it would shrink the cyst so that we could avoid surgery. I went back for a scan after 6 months and the cyst had completely gone.

Everybody reacts differently to the injections but in my experience the downsides have been worth it, and all of the side effects have been reversed when I stopped having them.

What are you particularly scared about? Is it the raft of side effects you've probably read about, or the injections themselves?

Hiya. I had loads of headaches when i first started the jabs but it settled down after the second one. Hopefully it will help you in the long term. I agree about avoiding the add back hrt, i believe it'll just give your body even more to have to deal with. x

Hey there Iv been on zoladex for 6 months now and wold say give it a go!! It was very hard wen I had my 1st period after zoladex coz my symptoms got wrose then before and was in hospital. But then got told by consultant that the first and second injection makes the symptoms wrose for some, and I was one of them. But then 4th dose, only spoting no period no pain thanks to God. Side effects are bad but I'm pain free from monthly labour pain which lasted 10days, so it's a God sent for me. All the best Hun xxxxx
