I have a cold which started today due to have laparscopy on wednesday 5th dec , will they still do the operation?
Hi
I had the same problem as I had a cold few days before my lap 3 weeks. If your chest is clear and youvdont have fever then they will probably go ahead. But if you have fever and/or cough/mucus they will probably send you home with antibiotics as it is dangerous for the general anaesthesia.
I didn't have fever but had pain in my chest from the cold so they sent me home with antibiotics and rescheduled for the following week. You should call them tomorrow ASAP to tell them what's going on, and you need to be fit for the op.
I know it's frustrating but it's better to be at your best so you can have a nice and speedy recovery.
Good luck

I had a cold that started before my lap last Thursday and it mostly went away by then with the help of lots of lemsip, cough syrup and lozenges. If it's not too bad they may do the lap - they just don't want any throat infection you have to spread to your lungs when they put a tube in to help you breathe. Good luck.

I had my lap nearly a couple of weeks ago and had a cold / sore throat. I was so worried they wouldn't operate cos they have to stick a breathing tube down your throat. I mentioned it to the surgeon and anaesthetist that morning and they looked to check it wasn't tonsilitis and then said it was fine. They said at worst I would end up with tonsilitis from having the tube stuck down my throat but when I came round my throat felt fine. It came back a couple of days later but not as sore as it had been pre-op. He also wanted to check I didn't have a temperature. If you have a teemperature or chesty cough they may not operate but otherwise was fine. Also the night before the op (the sore throat came on that day and I felt awful with it too) I drank loads of honey and lemon tea, orange juice and water and ate fruit and I felt so much better by the morning. Water is an amazing cure! Good luck!
Good luck with the op today.
