Took me 6 weeks to recover from my lap was hurting so much still had to take Tramadol. I started doing house work/laundry etc a week after my lap but set my recovery back for a long time as made myself worse. Needed to take it easy for at least 6 weeks. If still in pain after 6 weeks I would go to your gp, I went 4 weeks after when still in pain and he said to give it 2 more weeks to recover properly from lap. x

P.s Took my mum 5 days to completely recover from hers when she had one done 15 years ago. Everyone recovers differently. x

Claire,

Hi. The thing to remember regarding laps is - laparoscopy is just the term for the type of operative investigation (as opposed to laparotomy which is open surgery or vaginal vault which goes in underneath). Under 'a lap' the surgeon might merely have a look around ad not do anything else, treat the patient with laser, carry out patch excision or if you are lucky to see a skilled surgeon, radical excision. A hysterectomy can also be undertaken by a lap rather than open or vaginal surgery (only a few surgeons can do this).

Therefore, recovery times will not only depend upon the individual and their unique recovery time but also on the level of what work was undertaken during the lap itself. Hope this helps to explain why there is such a variety of recovery times from 'a lap'.

All best wishes for your recovery.
