Dienogest side effects

Hello, I started dienogest nearly 4 weeks ago and up until last week I had very few side effects.

I started taking it about 10 days into my cycle. I started bleeding a week ago (around when my period would’ve been) and it’s not stopped, usually my periods are 4/5 days long.

I had real bad stomach cramps for 5 days when they only usually last 2/3 days. Also the bleeding has been a lot lighter than normal and for the last 3 days has been barely worth using a pad/tampon for but enough to leave a stain. What’s most annoying is I’m currently on holiday and I feel I can’t enjoy myself properly.

Has anyone experienced this before? Is it because I started it part way through? I know I need to persevere and I’m having a review in September but it’s so annoying that it won’t stop! It’s exactly what happens when I’ve tried various hormonal contraceptives before and why I stopped them☹️

I had a lot of bleeding close together when I started on it. It thins down the lining of your womb so I suppose it was doing it's thing. The first 3 mths were frustrating then it was a bit of spotting occasionally and after 6 mths nothing at all so I'm glad I persisted. I've been on it for nearly 3 years now. I've never got on with an hormones before. The mirena was a nightmare for me, pain, endless bleeding and sent me a bit crazy.

If your bleeding is lighter than normal then I'd stick with it because hopefully it will settle down soon.

Thanks for replying😊 I don’t think I would be so bothered if I was at home, it’s just frustrating as I’m in Cyprus on holiday right now☹️ like it couldn’t have chosen a better time🙄
