This is mainly a rant as its getting me down and need it off my chest. If anyone has advice will more than happily read the replies.

So I do multiple jobs in a year as I work in entertainment and arts sector, been at the current place a few months now and had my first major flare up in work. Everyone is my department and a few outside the department are aware of my condition and how it can effect me. It doesn't mean I cannot work just means some tasks I can't do that day, but there's plenty I can do. So I'm in severe pain all day take my pain meds and people did come check on me, helped me etc. So in a group chat I thanked them all.

The day after one of them said (not to my face but I was in ear shot) that "if your that bad don't come in"

Like I actually have a choice I need the money to survive. I did the work and didn't complain, I took breaks when needed, I took my pain meds as prescribed and management were all aware. I'd be in the same state at home there's nothing the hospital can really do, atleast with work I have a distraction so I can focus on something else, which does help. I just find it annoying that accommodations get put in place and people are aware why, yet still proceed to say well in that case you shouldn't be doing this job, because of something not in your control that on those days you can do something else or limit what you do.

Also pay won't be the issue as they're on a higher pay grade. I don't understand what I'm doing wrong it feels like a damned if I do and damned if I don't.

Hi there, do you meditate? This issue is for that person to deal with, not you. It sounds like your work is very supportive and people generally are kind and compassionate to the cards you've been dealt. That's wonderful.

Don't let this one person's comment ruin all the positive things that have happened in order to support you and your pain. Why give them that immense power over your emotions? Their opinion is not your business. Their opinion is not your issue, it is most definitely theirs. It says everything about them and nothing about you.

Meditation is very helpful to change your perspective on things like this I find. Xx

Hi,

Please know your are NOT the problem. That individual/s is the problem. They are either uneducated or careless. It is not your responsibility to adjust their attitude. Its so sad people would make comments like that without knowing/caring about the effects it has. Practically, if your concerned and feel able to - then speak with your line manager/ lead as this is not okay.

Endometriosis is considered a disability under the Equality Act if it has a substantial and long-term adverse effect on a person's ability to carry out normal day-to-day activities. Therefore you should be supported appropriately and your employer should address concerns seriously surrounding this.

Really annoyed for you, but just know that THEY are the one with the problem and not you x
