Do I need my smear ?

hi, seems like a silly question but I’m wondering if I need my smear?

I have a hysterectomy booked for 14th may but today I revived my letter for my cervical screening. Do I still need to have this done?

If it's before your date ,I would definitely go as it picks up any changes in your cervix ,after full hysterectomy not required x

it’s worth having but get them to do it when they do surgery if it’s painful . Before they remove it obviously. I was due one and asked them to do it when I hap a lap because of the pain. It was no problem

I had this dilemma. Letter arrived just before surgery. The other complication was that I’d been bleeding for 7 months constantly at this stage. I asked G P advice she said as long as the bleeding isn’t heavy we can do it, but why bother they will test everything in the lab afterwards. My concern was if there was anything that would prevent surgery, I’d been waiting 20 years to be sorted out! I went along and it was horrendous I was almost screaming and it made me bleed more. Nurse said it was a failed attempt and put down I’d asked her to stop! Great support eh? I had my surgery and yes they tested everything and I got the all clear in January, no cervical or womb/ovary cancer detected. My Nan and Great Aunt, her sister, died from cancer of the womb and ovaries so it had always been a worry and I’d had a previous scare and treatment. The bottom line is do what feels right for YOU, get the information and make a personal informed choice. That’s all we can do.
