endo locations

hi!

I’m just looking for some more information regarding areas my endo was found as the info I’ve read online is confusing and I’ve not had a lot of info since my diagnosis.

So it was found in the recto vaginal area (this is the one I’d like more info on ideally and like what it can affect, severity etc), abdominal walls and uterosacral ligaments.

If anyone has any helpful information on these areas I’d be super grateful! Thank you

Endo can be anything from mild to severe in any location. Mild endo affects just the pelvic lining (peritoneum) whilst what is called deep endo infiltrates beneath into the structures below.

There is a specific type of deep endo called ‘nodules’ and this forms as hard lumps of endo fibrosis which means diseased scar tissue. This doesn’t have to infiltrate and the nodules can be found stuck to structures and sticking them together as one mass.

Although rectovaginal literally defined refers to the location between the back of the uterus and bowel, when referring to endo ‘rectovaginal’ endo is the nodular type in this location. The most common location for rectovaginal endo by far is the uterosacral ligaments (over 70% of deep endo) but it also affects the cervix/vagina, bowel, pouch of Douglas and ureters. This can all become stuck together as one solid mass with the ovaries drawn in and stuck also and when this happens it is called a frozen pelvis.

There can also be nodules between the bladder and uterus in what is called the uterovesical space which is the equivalent of the pouch of Douglas but in front of the uterus as opposed to behind it. The abdominal side walls can be affected by deep infiltrating endo.

What is important know is that rectovaginal endo and any other deep infiltrating endo is classed as severe and must only be treated in a specialist endo centre. Feel free to dm if you need any more info. X

Thank you so much! This is the first time I’ve actually understood when someone has explained to me. Yes I have it on pouch of Douglas, uterosacral and abdominal walls so this has explained it perfectly to me. Thank you so much! I did have it excised by an endo specialist at my nhs hospital x.
