Having pain for 3/4 weeks

Hello,

I was wondering if anyone else struggle with pain when they are not on their period. I struggle with cramps, lower back pain and hip pain the week before my period, the week of my period and the week after so I seem to only get 1 week out of 4 where I'm not in pain.

I had an internal ultrasound and my GP said there is no further action required but I am on dihydrocodeine, naproxen, folic acid and tranexamic acid and I can't move unless I take my meds when I have a flare up.

Does anyone have some advice on how to cope with the pain?

Hi Lucy, do you have a diagnosis of Endometriosis? It often doesn't show up on a scan, mine didn't and wasn't found until they operated. If you aren't already seeing a consultant I would push the GP for a referral to see a Gynaecologist as unfortunately I don't think the GP's know enough about it from my experience. Also the mini pill can help a lot when you don't have a week break for a period and take it consistently, weird thought to mess with the body that way but seems to help keep the hormones for level. It did help me quite a lot for a couple of years and would only struggle the week building to the end of the packet and the first week of new packet, so 2 weeks out of 4 was pretty good!...however now I seem to be struggling all the time! Which I why joined this to reach out for advice also! What are those medications you are taking please?

I am somewhat similar in that my pain is the 2 weeks of my cycle after ovulation in the lead up to my period. I’ve had fertility scans before and have always been told everything looked normal. I did a lot of research before choosing the gynae consultant I asked to be referred to as I had read a lot that their endo/adeno being missed. I ended up paying privately to see the gynae I have gone to as I was told the gynae waiting list is 12 months plus on our area. The gynae I’ve had a consult with has said with my symptoms he’ll be looking for both endo and adeno but with the latter more likely than endo. He’s recommended an MRI initially and said his team are excellent on picking up endo on MRI, this won’t be the case for all places.I do know that an ultrasound is not very sensitive for endo, so I would push back on your gp/gynae ruling endo out based on ultrasound alone. Unfortunately the NICE guidelines advise not using MRI alone but to consider for cases of ‘deep’ endo.
