coming off all hormones

hi warriors.

I’ve bled for 73 days now since my surgery on 6th October. I’ve had options from my surgeon and they would effect fertility which I don’t want to do so we discussed coming off all contraception and using tranexemic acid on heavier days of my natural cycle.

How many of you have used this/done this method?

Currently I have no quality of life as I’ve bled for almost 3/4 of the year. I’m exhausted and need a break. Severely anaemic now too so if this works for people I’d be tempted to try it tbh

Any experiences or insight would be great!

Thanks 💛

I am so sorry to hear what you had to endure...

I was on a small pill for 6 months and bled for 4 months straight. I then plainly refused to take any more pills. My gynae disapproved, by couldn't take them any longer. I had all the other side effects as well.

I had my surgery 2 months after I stopped taking pills during which I refused Mirena (the same hormones as in the pills). I am now taking only painkillers when needed. Some days are better, some are worse, but I wouldn't come back to taking pills. I haven't been offered any other drugs as I am allergic to almost everything we tried so far, so can't say about tranexemic acid, but my quality of life improved dramatically.

Hi Kieraface

I’d suggest you look for support to these links @heal-endo ( Katie Edmonds - she also has a book of the same title) @leah.brueg who focuses on supporting cycles ( pick and choose but she knows her stuff) and look at her podcast number 57/56 with Dr Angie Muller on pelvic core health - an hours talk which is really helpful! She can be found at @corerecoverypt which is worth A real pick through.

Hi, I was on tranexamic acid for about 8 years whilst I had the copper coil fitted, before my endo diagnosis. It did help my bleeding & pain a lot. I was still bleeding for about 14 days each month but was no longer flooding/leaking - it was a lot lighter. It didn't stop all my pain, but it did mean painkillers were much more effective & stopped keeping me up all night. I'd recommend giving it a go & see how you get on. I've just also stopped all contraception due to side effects/intolerance & currently on the waiting list for a hysterectomy, but will be asking to go back on tranexamic acid if things get bad - I'm just waiting to see how my periods are with nothing. Good luck & hope things improve 🤞
