hello, so I have been suffering with my periods basically since I started at 14 I’m now 26 I’m being investigated for endometriosis. To help ‘short term’ they said, they have put me on a combined pill for 3 months at a time and a 4 day break, now this does help to a degree but I still get all sorts of symptoms the second and last packet anyway, I’m just wondering if anyone else has been put on this before as I don’t know if it’s even a good idea as I ended up bleeding for a whole month randomly and obviously it hasn’t been short term it’s been well over a year and it’s starting to worry me pumping all these hormones into me when it’s not really helping? Anyone else experienced this?

This is a standard intervention for endometriosis/ suspected endo. If it isn’t helping you then go back to whoever prescribed it (your GP ?)to talk about stopping, and alternatives. They may well offer you the coil, which also contains hormones. These interventions can treat the symptoms, but do not prevent endo from developing.

You could also ask about pain relief options /meds to reduce heavy bleeding.

If it has been a year, where are you at with the investigations/further treatment plan? If you have just been carrying on quietly with the pill they may feel you are ‘sorted’. Have a look at the NICE guidelines, available online, to see a recommended treatment pathway.

I hope you are able to find the right treatment for you.

hello, thankyou for replying! I am waiting to have a meeting with my gynaecologist to then arrange a laparoscopy as they found nothing on my MRI. Thankyou again x
