Endometriosis and contraception

Hello,

I was diagnosed with endometriosis a week ago and I’m currently trying to decide what form of contraception is best for me. I don’t want the injection as I don’t like that once it’s in for 3 months you don’t have any control. I was thinking of the copper coil because of it having no hormones but they do say the coil can worsen period pains which for me can’t get much worse! Due to having migraines I also am not allowed the combined pill. Any advice on what to get would really help as I’m really struggling to decide!

Thank you :)

Are you looking at it to help treat endo or simply or simply for birth control?

Well I have had my endo removed and I’m waiting for my post op appointment to say what the next steps are. I am wanting something for birth control but that isn’t going to worsen my symptoms. I’m yet to have a period post surgery so I don’t know if the surgery has helped yet

I would suggest a low estrogen birth control, like yaz. It should actually help treat your symptoms and provide contraceptive protection. You can take this with breaks for periods or continuously, which will likely stop your periods and provide better treatment for endo :)

Hello, I had the copper coil last year, when my symptoms were worsening each month. I wasn't diagnosed at the time and persevered for 10 months with it... It was awful, really heavy, super painful periods that lasted for 10 days plus. I passed out with pain whilst on holiday last year. If you have been diagnosed, personally i would stay well away. I swapped for the Mirena coil in September last year and my periods are much lighter, less painful but still last 10 days + (have now had the pill prescribed on top).

I know everyone is different and react differently to forms of contraception, but I would never recommend the copper coil to anyone with endo.

Hope this helps :) Xx

Thank you for that information. Do you feel like your mood had changed from the Mirena coil? And have you had any other side effects? Xx

I had the copper originally because I am quite sensitive to hormones, but the mirena has actually been fine, a little hungrier than usual haha but nothing too drastic thank god. Now having the pill on top is a different story though, but the pain is making me compromise. Frustrating. Xx
