So many questions regards diagnostic laparoscopy

Hello lovely people,I had an appointment with the Endo doctor last week and she suggested going for a diagnostic laparoscopy as she suspects I have superficial endometriosis as my ultrasounds were showing only hydrosalpinx that don't justify my symptoms.

I got explained a bit of the procession and I signed the consent form. She suggested doing some more ultrasounds etc before the surgery , which she said I will receive a letter for the date, and she send me for the pre op assessment straight after seeing me.

While at the appointment I forgot all my questions. 😬

The things I didn't ask

-How long does it usually take from the time you got refered to the actual surgery?

- will I have a chance to see the doctor again beforehand?

- will my ultrasound/ surgery be performed by a Endo specialist?

- how long before the lap I am getting informed about the date?

-also, what happens if the date they give me is not convenient for me? ( I study and work full time so I am wondering how I will manage)

It might worth mentioning I was seen in Middlesex hospital in London

Any replies will be very appreciated.

Thanks

Anastasia

I seen my consultant in August 2022 and I’m still waiting for a date for my surgery I’ve spoke to him about the risk and what can happen but still waiting he has offered me prostrap injection to put me into induced menopause to help with pain but I’m only 22 years old so currently trying to manage with codeine and other painkillers.

I have had an mri scan in the meantime where they have found thinking to some areas in the posterior compartment and pelvis area.

I’ve been in A&E four time and doctors have been writing to him to try to push the surgery but nothing has come from it.

I hope you get an answer soon.

sorry I mean thickness to some areas.

I don’t think I will see him now till the surgery date.

I’m sure you can request another date but with waiting so long u might not want to because you could be waiting a while for a new date.

Oh dear! I feel you so much,I used to get rushed to the A&E so often- always thinking I am dying or something had exploded inside of me. Thankfully my pains have been massively reduced with contraception!

Hello! I am so sorry if you are experiencing any pain as this is the worst pain on the planet. Here is some food for thought that may be helpful to you: YOU are in control of this situation. You may not want to wait for your doctor to tell you everything that is going to happen next. You must be your own advocate. Ask your doctor for a referral to the top specialist of endo removal. He/she may not be that, and you deserve the best treatment, and it will make all of the difference! Your surgery date can also be requested by what is convenient for you. If it is emergent, you may be able to get in quicker. Typically, your doc should be way more communicative than they seem to be, which leaves room for nervousness and anxiety as you have no clear view of what is going on. If I were you, I would call your doctor and ask these questions. Ask if they are a specialist in this type of surgery, and if not, to refer you (AND do your own research of someone local to you that specializes in it). Then, ask when your surgery date could be, and give them dates and times that would work for you. You must always advocate for yourself and tell them what YOU want, or they may just throw you to the side because everyone is so tired from covid and still so busy. This is your journey, and you are in control of it! Best of luck to you, warrior!

Thanks a lot for your very kind and uplifting reply,I was sure they won't listen to me for one for time so my mind when blank when they actually suggested investigating it further. Do you have any suggestion on endometriosis surgeon or where I can look for this kind of information?
