3rd surgery soon then prostrap and will try to conceive? Feeling isolated and emotional!

Hi everyone!

I had my last surgery in Dec 2021 but over the past few months my symptoms have come back with a bang! I’ve had an MRI and they found stage 3 endo so I’m booked in for excision in May (this is all privately). My doctor says that the best time to conceive would be straight after the surgery and that he will give me one prostrap injection to delay the re growth and then we should try for 4 months and if nothing then go back. I’m currently on the coil (which will be removed during surgery) and have been on hormonal contraceptive for over 10 years so I was wondering whether anyone else had been through similar experience and how it was for you? I’m worried about coming off hormonal contraceptive all together and my body adjusting to that and then taking this prostrap injection. On top of all that I’ll be recovering from the surgery and NGL will not be feeling my sexiest so will probably want to wait a couple of months to heal and then try to conceive.

As it feels like I only just had a surgery, I feel pretty emotional about being in the same place again so soon. I also find this condition to be so isolating!! My husband, family and friends are so supportive but I’m feeling a lot more sensitive about it this time round - maybe because of the fertility aspect? anyway…any thoughts would be welcomed

Hello,

I’m in a different but similar situation. I’ve just been diagnosed in December (endometrioma visible on scan), first Lap in Jan 2023 which identified I needed more in-depth surgery hopefully in May 2023 (Also going private) and plan to be TTC as soon as I’m feeling up to it.

I completely understand your concern around coming off hormonal contraceptive and having prostrap straight away after just coming out of a big surgery. Is there an opportunity to discuss this treatment plan further with your Endo Consultant? They might be able to help you understand benefits and potential risks in your situation and you can ask them about any specific concerns you have around this and you can then feel like you are making an informed decision on what’s best for you. I’m on Prostrap before my surgery and was really not sure to begin with, the more I read I got to a point where I completely understood why it was the right option for me and then having a chat with my consultant further solidified this.

We sound like we are in a similar situation with good support networks but I know what you mean the fertility aspect does make it so much more sensitive. We are all so different in how we cope and deal with Endo and fertility but find a path that works for you and this might change from how you’ve coped in the past with the fertility aspect being added in. I’ve found that trying to get a bit of control back through looking into the best supplements and diet changes is helping me to feel more positive and like I’m doing something. I’m also so aware of the toll it all takes on me emotionally so I’ve decided to start having some counselling on the lead up to my surgery just so I can be in the best place mentally to deal with what comes next ( I have already been TTC for a while and it can be a bit much at times).

Based on timeframes it sounds like we may go through quite a few things at a similar time so if you ever want to chat then feel free to get in touch, sometimes it’s nice to just chat to someone who's going through something similar.

Good luck on your journey x
