Hello Ladies, my question is why does the NHS offer lap to determine if u you have endo or not? Why can't an MRI or scan be done? Please help me understand please .

Hi

It’s one of those really frustrating things, unfortunately scans don’t always show the extent. I had very little show on a scan in comparison with what was found.

Ultrasound can be quite useful if the person doing the scan knows what to look for, there aren’t too many of those at the moment.

One thing to check is that they’ll remove what’s found at the time of operation. Last thing you need is having to go through a second op.

must depend who you see as my consultant knew from the scan and the opp was to remove it & I had it done twice as I had a cyst on ovary and was trying to get pregnant. The scan was enough to establish it for me but he is one of the best consultants in uk. Ingot lucky on NHS for once!

I have asked this question for years as I have had several laparoscopies. Answer is usually we don't do them. A private Senior consultant told me it is because the NHS do not have experts who are able to read the MRI. I paid for a private MRI and consultation for my diagnosis. It was worth it as I didn't want to go under the knife just for them to have a look. However, I am waiting for an NHS operation as I cannot afford private surgery, I went to the GP with return of endo pain in April 2019 and had 3 NHS pre-op assessments but no treatment. Summer 2021 I paid for private MRI-diagnosed with Frozen Pelvis stage 4 endo and still no NHS treatment!Hope you get treatment soon.
