Acute illness blamed on endo?

I've been in hopsital for 8 days after coming in with heart rate 130 and temp 40, pain in middle of pelvis which moved over to the right side. In the first few days doctors just wanted to get my temp and heart rate down and gave me pain relief for abdo pains but didn't investigate. They then said they'd start to investigate abdo pains as a doctor picked up that my symptoms were similar to appendicitis. However, due to it being weekend and they forget to hand me over from medical team to surgical team I went 3 days without seeing a doctor and continued in pain. Eventually a ct scan ruled out appendicitis so a very abrupt onsultant said it must be endo even though a gynae came to see me and said this is not gynae related. I don't know if the consultant has fobbed me off by saying its endo but as soon as I mentioned that I have it, there was a huge chnage in tone he completely disregarded me and on discharge said I can see you're very unwell but you should be safe to go home. I just feel like any woman with endo but are unwell with another issue seem to be an inconvenience to the doctor. Anyone else had similar experience with doctors being horrible???

I don't think doctors like people with chronic illnesses in general. They find it annoying that they keep coming back and complaining and that they don't get better. I think many male doctors also don't take women seriously, there is still a belief that women and a bit hysterical and that they make things up.

Not all doctors are like this thank goodness, but there are still many who have this attitude. I find it completely baffling because doctors are meant to listen to their patients to know how to treat them.

Also if you go to A and E this is where the most inexperienced medical staff work and they will not have many specialists available. It is a complete waste of time going to A and E with anything endo related and the staff will be annoyed at your going there. I think A and E only real deal with traffic accidents, heart attacks, broken limbs etc.

You need to just look up who is a gynae with endo interest in your area and go and see him/her and tbh you need to pay if you want to get seen within a reasonable time. Lots and lots of women with endo issues are misdiagnosed with appendicitis. If you cans ee a really good specialist who will do a scan at the same time that would be even better. You need an MRI or TV ultrasound scan but done by someone who knows what they are doing.

It's interseting that the gynae you saw at the hospital didn't give you a scan and yet felt able to see it is nt gynae related, he didn't do any chceks at all so he has no evidence to say this. He was probably just too busy to bother investigating anything. Sometime they are just so busy with their existing patients that they will say anything to fob new ones off.

Find out who is a good gynae in your area (you can look them up online) with a specialist interest in endo and book in with them for an appt. Good luck.

Hi, hope you're feeling a little better - the CT scan can pick up on gynaecological issues that would require immediate surgical intervention such as cysts/tumours/fluid/obstructions - they don't highlight adhesions. I agree with Avourneen - make an appointment to see a specialist in endo and they will discuss current symptoms considering your previous diagnosis and guide you in the right direction. Good luck.
