hi all,

How many of you have had an ultrasound that did not show anything and then go on to have a laparoscopy which found endometriosis?

My recent ultrasound apparently did not show anything. I am going to push for laparoscopy but I just wondered.

Thanks

Abbi

There will be many and the other way around. Diagnosis is a combined approach of both imaging and surgery. You might find this useful:

Hi it happens more often than it should. They have to know what they are looking for.

Mine didn’t show Endo, didn’t show many fibroids either, nor MRI. Far more when they operated than anticipated for both as well.

Don’t let them refuse on that basis. Have a look at the Endo UK site, lots of info.

Yep this was me. I had an ultrasound that was totally clear and then endo diagnosed via a lap.

Ultrasounds and MRI showed nothing, and I've had literally 200+ transvaginal ultrasounds. Surgery found severe endometriosis all over, bladder, rectovaginal, ligaments etc. My surgeon says that is very common in her experience. She only relies on imaging to plan for deep bowel involvement, endometriomas, etc.

Thankyou for sharing this

I’m going through the exact same thing

Have had 100s of scan and various opinions. Ive pushed for a laparoscopy at a cost of nearly 4K

And finally hoping for some answers

my ultrasound showed only a thickening of the lining and an endometrioma. My lap showed stage 4 endo. Endo on bladder wall, appendix, obliterated pouch of Douglas and ovaries stuck behind rectum area. a follow up mri showed extensive damage through scaring and a further endo nodule near the rectum. I also have another cyst growing only 3 mth after having the other removed 🤦‍♀️

Hi, this happened to me so definitely does. To be specific I had two MRIs that found nothing, a lap that did then a successful MRI that did so it definitely happens. I literally had to fight for the lap as well as they offered me Clomid to see if it treated the infertility or a lap to investigate was only because of my insistence I got diagnosed so again, I definitely root for pushing!

yes happened to me. Nothing via ultrasound and all tests coming back ‘normal’. Laparoscopy 2 months ago with stage 3 rectovaginal endometriosis and was removed during surgery
