Negative ultrasound and still being forwarded for a laparoscopy

Stories please? I had a negative ultrasound in June and as of last Tuesday I've been forwarded for a laparoscopy

A Lap is the only way to diagnose Endo. Your consultant may try to treat at the same time if possible x

But I keep reading how it can show up on ultrasound?

It can but it generally doesn't. I had a clear ultrasound but when I had my laparoscopy mild to moderate endo was found.

My first ultrasound at the local hospital was said to be clear and I was told no gynae referral was needed. First lap found very severe disease and large nodules (4 all 2-3 cm). It can be seen on ultrasound if the ultrasound is carried out by an endo specialist using a high res machine. If your nodules are smaller than 1cm it generally doesn't show up.

Mine was carried out the ultrasound Ina general ultrasound department. Said it was clear it devasted me. As I feel the stabbing pains that are always in the same place. To cut story short I got reffered on Tuesday for a laparoscopy and I have my pre assessment on Wednesday. I really hope they see something it will devastate me more if they find nothing

I felt exactly the same when nothing was found (well polycystic ovaries initially diagnosed and treated but symptoms continued) but then endo and a large fibroid was found during lap. Good luck! X

Sounds so similar to my story Vicki! They said it was clear I thought I was going crazy!! My boyfriend even said it was in my head. Well I've finally been diagnosed with endo safe to say my boyfriend apologised! Xxx

Sounds similar to mine. I was told my scan was normal then gp reviewed it and said there was a little bit of liquid under my endometrium that along with my symptoms I still had a second laparoscopy (first was negative on endo apparently) and now after second lap got endo everywhere including my bladder xxx good luck lovely hope you have a relaxing, restful recovery

I wonder how long surgery is....how long was all yours?

Depends what they do. My first surgery was very quick as all the consultant did was put in the camera, see the endo, and end the surgery. The second took about an hour as they drained the cysts on my ovaries, excised endo from my bladder and had a good look around. The third was a 5 hour marathon where I had a hysterectomy + BSO and all the endometriosis was excised.

That's what I was told by the consultant who carried out my first surgery. Sadly it turned out he had completely underestimated the extent of the disease and couldn't treat any of it.
