Surgery - what to expect?

Hi,

I am just looking for some advice on what to expect when having surgery for endo. I have been given a date in Dec for surgery to remove ovarian cysts, possibly remove Fallopian tubes if they are both blocked and damaged, & also bowel resection. I haven’t heard from the hospital but had lots of things uploaded to my online portal today which seem to suggest I need to go in beforehand for blood tests? I also don’t know how long I’m likely to be in hospital for this surgery & also how long approx the recovery time would be? I’m going to call the hospital tomorrow but would really like to hear what other peoples experiences have been.

Thank you x

I assume you are under a specialist endo centre so should have the contact for the specialist endo nurse. I'd contact them.

Hi. Yes I intend to contact them but it would be helpful to hear other peoples experiences as to what to actually expect

So you will have had all the necessary scans and discussion with the multidisciplinary team so presumably they have a good idea of what might be involved. You will have a pre op assessment so they'll call you in for that. I didn't have a bowel resection but had RV endo including ureters and my surgery was 7 hours long. I was kept in overnight. With a potential bowel resection you presumably have severe RV endo so I'd expect it to be a long op. I recovered well but if you do have a bowel resection then recovery can be take se time but obviously everyone is different. They say to give 6 months to know if you've turned a corner but some will recover more quickly
