Hi all, I’m 25 and have both endo & adeno (had my first lap in February). I’ve been on the Depo provera injections for the last six months, which the consultant said should help me by stopping my periods, which it did for a time, but now I’ve been fluctuating between bleeding and spotting for nearly two months.
Has anyone had a similar experience, and what did you do? I have an appointment with the specialist next week and I’m certain he’ll suggest trying Zoladex, but I’m reluctant to do that unless it will definitely help things, so I’d be grateful to hear about whether any of you found Zoladex useful or if the experience with Depo might improve!
Thank you!!

Ive been on the depo for 12 years. Its not recommended to be on longer than 5 but I bled through everything else offerred.
I too would like to know any positive stories about zoladex, as thats next if depo doesnt settle down
I had 11 perfect years on depo. Ill miss out the hiccup I had with a broken rib and wrist.
But a year and a half a go I was treated roughly in a sexual relationship for 3 months and the bleeding became very irratic. I started bleeding 6 weeks into my injections. This continued after I escaped the situation. But I then had problems with the nurse refusing to give me the depo.
My gynae has increased the injections from 12 weeks to 10 weeks, to stop the bleeding but has encouraged me to think more seriously and go for surgery or zoladex.
The depo can cause irregular bleeding if you are sexually active, and if its not regularly administered.
I don’t know if the Zoladex would definitely help you but it worked really well for me. (I also have a Mirena but have been told that the effect is very localised.) I went from agonising pain early in the year to feeling great after five months of treatment - to the point where I was almost wondering why I was going to have the second surgery. The period finally stopped after about two months, when it had been almost constant on both desogestrel and the Mirena. The hot flushes and lack of sleep were bad for the first couple of months and then settled down. And the surgeons were really pleased at how much easier it was to remove all the adhesions and nodules, which I think has really helped recovery.
I also have endo and adeno a severe case of both. I’ve had two laparoscopy’s with consultants that were sure they could help. Sadly both times they went in and came straight back out not being able to clear or do anything. I am now on zoladex for a minimum of 6 months before a full pelvic clearance. Only been on the zoladex for 3 weeks and so far it’s ok….still got discomfort but not pain and no bleeding…yet.
However- at 25 I would think very carefully…the zoladex is putting me into an early menopause, I’m not expert but surely at 25 years old that’s not a wise idea. I’m 42 but I’ve been peri menopausal for a year anyway.
Not sure if I’ve been any help! I hope your get through- ask loads of questions and listen to yourself x
I was on Zoladex for a little over a year. It worked wonders for my pain levels, I was able to lead a fairly normal and active life again which Ive been unable to do for many many years. My periods stopped straight away.
It does make your body think its going through the menopause, one thing I wasnt warned about was the joint paint! I also found it made me feel quite tired, and it can make you gain weight. But everything settled down.
Ive since had surgery and have stopped the Zoladex. Everything is starting to return to normal and Im coming out of the menopause stage (phew!) I was 33 when i started the Zoladex, best thing I ever did!
hi I’m 54 and have large fibroids with alot of bleeding. The hospital recommended zoladex to shrink fibroids. During the 1st month I began to flood, which was the worst bleeding I’ve ever had. The hospital said it could be a surge in hormones. The bleeding never stopped. I had to take norethisterone to keep bleeding at bay. I took the second injection of zoladex and had terrible joint pain, I asked dr if I had to take the third injection. They said no. Only three injections and I couldn’t manage. Fibroids hadn’t changed but they were slightly bigger. Zoladex was a bad experience for me!sorry I didn’t have a better story!
