Hi, I started experiencing lower back pain last year and over the course of a few month the pain spread to my lower abdomen. I was referred to a gynaecologist in April but as yet , I’ve still not herd anything . My doctor suggested that I have the implant taken out as it was nearly time for it to come out and she hoped it would alleviate symptoms , I had that done 10 days ago and since then I have been in a world of pain , it feels like I have 50 knives twisting in my back and stomach cramps . I went back to the docs 5 days ago and they prescribed trammadol and naproxen and said to wait to see gyne.

This morning I was woken at half 4 in crippling pain , pain that is off the scale , I’ve fainted twice and just payed on the sofa shaking and crying. My husband rang an ambulance. When they came my heart rate was fast and I was clammy , they gave me morphine and got me straight to the hospital .

I am sat outside a and e now , after been here little more than an hour , bloods and urine didn’t show anything , so was told to wait for gyne to see if it’s endo and sent on my way. With the advice not to take tramadol .

I can feel the morphine wearing off and my body is starting to shake . The pain is unbearable , my whole life has stopped , I can’t walk.

I have 2 young children at home and a sick husband , I need to be able to function . Please does anyone have any advice that can help me get through till I finally see a gynaecologist, and does anybody else back hurt this much . I feel like I was an inconvenience to the doctor in a and e and he didn’t believe how much pain I was in .

Please can somebody help?

Sorry to hear how bad things are for you. Did A and E say why you were not to take the tramadol? That would be the stronger of the two meds you were on, I wonder if they just meant until the morphine wears off as you should not take both together or they thought your fainting was due to the tramadol?

I think now you can only wait and contact your GP for an urgent appointment on Monday to review your pain meds and to speed up your Gynae referral. However if you are in as much pain as before I think it will need to be back to A and E and hope they will take you more seriously.

Honestly I can’t see that anything except strong pain relief and investigation of what is currently going on can help. Can you get some family help with the kids?

Hope things improve x

Thankyou for your reply , it means so much . I have never posted on anything before , but really needed to feel I wasn’t alone , so Thankyou .x

The Doctor in a and e just said he didn’t like tramadol , not good for the body .

My pain has not subsided at all ,I am in hell , I will be phoning doctors again tomorow and hope they give me strongest stuff they have .

I just feel like I’m failing my children .

Thankyou again x

You're absolutely not failing your children. You didn’t choose this! Tramadol can be addictive, like other opiates, but him/ her not liking it doesn’t seem a good reasons not to take it if it’s prescribed and it helps you. Discuss it with your GP.

I have had tramadol post surgery a few times, it does really make me dopey/ sleepy, but it works.

Hope things are better soon.

Hi Gretna,

I'm so sorry to hear you are in such a bad way. I was like this for a year, I couldn't drive, I couldn't sit down and I couldn't walk.

It won't last forever if you can get help and proper treatment the pain will really improve.

I would say stay away from A and E they won't have anyone who can help you, going there is really stressful and morphine will probably make things worse long term.

What you need is to get reffered for an MRI. I had a herniated disc in my spine and really awful endo and adenomysiosis at the same time. If you have herniated a disc you would know because it would come on really suddenly probably when you were llifting something so I'm guessing it's not that (which is good).

I had loads of pain in my back and after months I realised it was much much worse whenever I had my period. I went for an MRI but you could also try a transvaginal ultrasound. It showed adenomsiosis (which causes terrible back pain) and endo all through my bowel and all my bits inside the pelvis stuck together. I had excision surgery andthe pain is not gone but it is so much less strong that I can manage all my normal daily tasks and it's just a low level pain I can live with.

Something that really helped was taking the progesterone only pill. It stopped my periods completely and that has also really reduced the pain.

If you have the funds get a private scan and an appointment with a private gynae (but you need to find a really good one). Ask then to put you on medicine that will stop your period, arrange a scan and take the period stopping medicine until you can get an operation.

Can you get any friends to help you with the children ? I had to give up work but my husband was super helpful and supportive and I don't have any kids. You will really need some help and support to get through this. Can your family help?

Don't give up hope you will get better , you just need to get through this very hard bit. Call on your friends and family and ask them to help you.

Good luck xxx

Thankyou for your post , it has really helped. The doctor came out to me on Monday has has put me on morphine patches and liquid morphine , it has helped , although I am not pain free , I’ve managed to get dressed for the last 2 mornings , which is hugh .

She is also sending me for a CT scan .I really wish I could afford to go private , but really don’t have the money .

My husband has changed roles and become my carer , he has been good , and my grown up children are helping where they can with the kids .

I just want an end to this so desperately.

Thankyou for taking the time to reply to my post , I really appreciate it .

I'm sorry you are in this position the morphine is nt a good option though it is massively addictive and the pain killing effects wear off as you use it more regularly. Luckily I'm alleregic to it so couldn't slip into any problems.but I would try to avoid getting an addiction will not help you sort out your problems. CT scan isn't the right scan for endo as far as i know it should be an MRI or a trans vaginal ultrasound. TEll your doctor they are refering you for the wrong kind of scan and to send you for the correct one.

I'm so sorry you are having to go through all this. Endo is a horrible disease and what we really need are better treatments and more research. Good luck. xx
