Sadly they can’t officially diagnose endo without doing a laparoscopy, although they can be pretty certain about it from symptoms/scans etc. When you say you’ve been diagnosed, was it from a scan? If you’re happy suspecting you have it, then you’re well within your rights to refuse the surgery and try some treatment options. But the laparoscopy is the only way to know for sure that you have it and to “fix” any damage it’s caused!

Yes it was from the scan , haven’t been to see the Gyno yet .

If you don't want one, they won't make you have one, you can just say you want to try the coil or hormone treatments. I went ultrasound->mri->hysterectomy. No diagnostic lap required.

Hi Sammyjam

Thanks for posting - I know the prospect of a laparoscopy can be really daunting/scary but it is the best way to diagnose endometriosis and can also be used to treat endometriosis.

Before seeing your gyno it would be well worth reading a document on our website that explains how to prepare for a laparoscopy, what to expect from the surgery and about recovery afterwards. That way, you'll be able to make an informed decision about whether or not you'd like to go ahead with a laparoscopy and can see your gyno armed with any further questions. You can download the document at endometriosis-uk.org/your-l...

Take care - hope this helps x
