Hi, my surgery for 8-Feb was cancelled the day before. A bit gutting. Anyway I was told they’d call when another date is available. So far there’s been nothing but my pre op assessment runs out the 6th March. Calling feels a bit pointless as there’s obviously nothing available yet, but part of me wonders if not making a fuss = looking like I’m fine getting on with things?! Probably a naive way of looking at things.
I was originally put on a waiting list in Jan 2021 but I transferred to a BSGE accredited trust in September 2021. Therefore I wonder if I look like I’ve not been waiting long?
Does anyone know if the pre op assessment window can be extended? And whether it’s worth chasing this? Also whether if you have a cancellation, you remain at the top of the pile? No idea how this works
Thanks so much

Hi there, sorry to hear you op was cancelled, how disappointing for you 😔 I don't have experience with having a cancellation, but my experience with waiting lists in general is to make a pest of yourself. Call the hospital and ask to speak to the secretary of your consultant/surgeon and find out where you are on the list and explain how debilitating your symptoms are and how long you've been waiting. You can also get your GP to chase from their end. It can't do any harm! x
Thank you, I called. They couldn’t get me off the phone quick enough, and reminded me there are other patients than myself. Aha, I am well aware of that. At least I know now that the pre op assessment lasts six months. Anyway thank you for your encouragement.
Echoing what Jane said. I have no experience of calculations but contact, contact and contact. I was put on the emergency wait list and received surgery within 4 or so weeks. Ask to speak to the surgeon and explain the predicament, how you're feeling, what you feel the surgery will achieve etc. Good luck
Sorry it was cancelled, I had that back in January.I’d say chase, I found admissions were best, secretary next. When I first spoke to admissions she was lovely, and set the pre op appointment in case of cancellations. She even suggested calling regularly so I was in their minds for cancellations.
When mine was cancelled they’d stopped because of covid, as soon as they were able to book I called.
