Ovarian Remnant Syndrome

Hi, I’ve had two surgeries for endo so far. On my last one they took my left ovary.

Fast forward two years I’m in agony again and it is on my left side. GP organised a vaginal ultrasound and the sonographer asked if I had definitely had my ovary removed. As all my records state yes then obviously something has grown in it’s place.

I’m in constant pain, regularly bleeding and just wondering if anyone else has been diagnosed with this or has any suggestions what else it could be and if so what’s next.

I feel so sad about it all.

Hi there. I'm so incredibly sorry to hear about your experience it must be so terrifying. I haven't experienced this specifically, I had a partial removal of my left ovary and had to have the rest removed with a later surgery. I cant say anything about what it could be but I would get your GP to refer you urgently to a specialist endometriosis clinic. Take care

Hi Trixiewoo, I had my left ovary removed during a hysterectomy a few years ago, as it was stuck to the pelvic wall. Within a couple of weeks of the surgery I started with sharp twinges again. I was told the pain would be from scar tissue from the op and I believed that at the time. The pain continued to get worse. It’s really the same as the pain I had prior I my op- stabbing, throbbing. I’ve read about ovarian remnant syndrome and I do wonder if I have it too. I’d be surprised if they’d removed all of my ovarian tissue with it being stuck. I imagine they remove the ovary but leave the remaining tissue. Of course this remaining tissue still acts like an ovary and produces hormones. This could be the case with you but I’m not sure how you go about getting it investigated further. I did go back to the same gynae consultant last year and she was adamant that my pain was not gynaecological as my ovary was no longer there. I didn’t feel I could mention ovarian remnant syndrome as I’d be dismissed and patronised as usual. What is your next step?

Well I’m still back under my GP so my next step is whatever she says but as I have something on my ultrasound that’s not supposed to be there I’m hoping it’ll be straight back to gynaecologist. Thing is I’m sick of general ones. I want an endo specialist for once and I want it all gone. I want my life back 😞

I agree! I would see an endo specialist next time too. It’s good that it was spotted on your ultrasound and surely that can’t be ignored. Best wishes-I hope you get some answers and treatment very soon.
