Upcoming laporoscopy

Hi everyone! I have finally got my surgery date and it's 3 weeks tomorrow! Still in shock I finally have a date.

A bit of background- I've got stage 4 endo, deep infiltrating endo on my bowel and an endometrioma on my right ovary. An endo specialist I've seen is going to be removing as much superficial endo as he can, removing the cyst and checking my tubes too. We aren't touching the deep infiltrating endo on the bowel yet as we are trying to get pregnant and there could be a risk to my fertility if we do this. He's also referred me for IVF after the surgery.

I was just wondering if I could have any advice on what to expect! I'm really really really nervous!

What I should take with me to the hospital, what I need at home ready for my return? Also, is it likely to be a day case or an overnight? I'm being admitted at 11am so I'm guessing it'll be an afternoon surgery.

I've got my pre op next week and I know I'll find out some answers then, but I'm already so anxious and feel like I need to know what's going to happen!! Any advice at all would be really appreciated 😊 xx

Hi! Good luck with your surgery!

If all goes to plan, it'll likely be a day surgery (I had endo removed and an endometrioma off my ovary in my first lap) so you'll be home later the same day. However, whenever I've been in for day surgery, I always pack spare underwear etc for just in case!

Otherwise, the only other things I take in my bag are a water bottle with straw for after (just makes life a little easier!), loose comfy clothes for going home and a book/headphones for the wait before. Oh, and a dressing gown for walking down to theatre!

Happy to answer any questions you might have ❤️

Thank you! I really hope it's a day case... I get so anxious being away from home overnight! Someone at work told me that if I have surgery on the Friday and it's not a day case, don't expect to go home until Monday because nothing happens at the weekend, and that's freaked me out! 🤦🏼‍♀️

Thank you for the ideas on what to take, that's really helpful. I'm going to try and make some lists. Also, I've got my pre op ok Wednesday and am going to write down questions to ask. Is there anything you think was important to ask at that point? I don't suppose you know if hospitals are allowing visitors now too?

I'm 99% sure if, even if you were kept in on a Friday for some unforseen reason, you could still be discharged over the weekend! I don't think surgery etc is scheduled for weekends, but the hospital is still staffed and if there's no reason to keep you longer, they'd be glad to get you discharged!

The hospital I had my lap at, and will have my hysterectomy at next month, still isn't allowing visitors. But, as with above, unless there are any unforseen complications then you should be out the same day ❤️

It is a worry, there's so much to think about, but you're in good hands! Xx
