Hi all 👋 hope everyone is ok, so I'm waiting for surgery and I've just received a letter to fill in an online form before surgery, this is fine but I'm worried I will get turned down cos of my weight! Has anyone had surgery at East Suffolk and North Essex NHS foundation trust and had a high BMI? I am trying to loss weight. Any advice would be great xx
Weight and surgery 😬: Hi all 👋 hope... - Endometriosis UK
Weight and surgery 😬
Hi! Not in that particular trust area, but I'm (a lot!) heavier than I should be at the moment and just had surgery this week! I was told there are added risks being overweight, but wasn't turned down.
Hi, thanku for ur reply, that makes me feel a bit better, fingers crossed it's the same fir me 🤞hope ur surgery went well, can I ask what did u have done? X
Hi! I had a lap for excision of endo - during the op they also found adenomyosis so I'll have to have further surgery for a hysterectomy shortly. I have my follow up appt in a few weeks where it will be booked (my lap was only on Wednesday, so still getting back on my feet!)
I was told it would be best to start start losing weight, and my BMI is high at 30, but at no point was it suggested that I couldn't have the op!
They usually prefer that your BMI is below 30. But they will say no to surgery only if your weight is too high and can compromise the efficiency of general anesthesia and increase risks.
