I was diagnosed with endometriosis in January after a laparoscopy. Post-surgery my gynae prescribed me decapeptyl monthly for 6 months, starting in March. After the first dose I felt fine, no issues, but got sicker as time went on after the second dose. I had the third dose last week, and threw up 3 h afterwards. I have been bedridden ever since.
I didn’t think these side effects were normal, so I went back to the gynae on Wednesday. He agreed the side effects weren’t normal, and we went back over the drugs I received. It then came to light that the pharmacist misdispensed my injection, so I received the three month (11.25 mg) in both March and April, and the prescribed dose (3 mg) last week. This means I’ve had a triple overdose.
I was sent straight to a&e who ran bloods for my liver, kidneys and thyroid and did an ECG. All was fine so they sent me home and said I had to wait for the effects to wear off. My question is, has this happened to anyone else and how long did recovery take? I feel horrendous and I’m off work.
Thank you xx

Hello I also get the 3 monthly one 11.25mg every month. I queried it as the box says 3 months and told that because I have endo and adeno it’s fine. I would say I have extreme fatigue since starting this. Are you continuing to feel not well? X
Thank you for replying. I feel absolutely horrific. After the second dose I developed nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, fatigue, severe anxiety and dizziness. Since the third dose the joint pain and fatigue is so bad I’m bed ridden. My gynae said that this is an overdose and was very concerned about the defects on my organs.
That’s so bad! and so dangerous, flippin eck you should def put in a complaint about this. Hope you feel better soon and there is no long term damage x
Thank you for replying. Yes I will be putting a complaint as, even though it looks like I’m lucky and won’t have any major issues, it could be very serious if this happened with something like painkillers. Unfortunately only time will tell if there’s no damage, but so far things are looking good x
Oh wow, I’m horrified and know first hand how unpleasant decapeptyl is. I’ve had two separate courses of it and wouldn’t wish just the normal dose on anyone. It floored me! In fact the most recent time I refused to have a 4th dose. I’m so sorry this has happened through no fault of your own! This is very worrying especially given the long term risks of this awful chemical. I don’t wish to alarm but I’ve developed spinal stenosis and Spondylosis since using this horrible drug, it may just be coincidence but I’m not so sure!
Is there nothing they can do? Are you on hrt with it? Or can you not have it due to recent surgery? Have they even apologised?
You most definitely should complain!
Best wishes to you, I hope you feel better soon with no complications xxx
Thank you for replying. I’m so sorry that you have developed these complications, and also worried as my knees are in unbearable pain and my legs very weak.
A&e told me there was no treatment, I just had to wait it out. I’m not on HRT but I’m speaking to the gynae on Tuesday so I’ll ask if it’s possible. He may be reluctant to give me anything else as he was very concerned about my liver and kidneys. There is a complaint going in so it will be being investigated and I assume action will be taken against the person responsible. Xx
Good, I’m glad it will be fully investigated. Still doesn’t help you though. Are they going to be doing regular checks on your liver and kidneys? As I think it is slow release so it will keep working for a period of time.
Have you got someone to help look after you until it passes? Xxx
Hi Lily1986 . I am having severe bone and joint pain and excruciating back pain. I have had 10 Decapeptyl injections consecutively since last June 2020. How long after your last Decapaptyl did you get diagnosed with spinal stenosis and Spondylosis? And who diagnosed you (a neurologist or orthopedic surgeon)? How many injections did you get ? Any advice you can share please 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
Hey, I’m sorry to hear you’re suffering with your back too,
My first one was three months without HRT before my second excision for stage 4 endo. This was in summer 2018My back trouble started during this first course of injections. It’s incredibly tight and I can’t stand in certain positions or walk for long without it starting to spasm. This didn’t stop after the injections.
My endo returned in less than two years so I was given another course of injections which was meant to be for upto a year (at the discretion of the consultant as it isn’t licensed for that long) but I gave up at the 4th injection. This was in Spring 2020z
My back got even worse it spasms a lot and more recently my right thigh has become permanently numb.
I had an mri arranged by GP which diagnosed the Spondylosis and stenosis in early March this year.
I have started pelvic and spinal physio and it has helped much more than I expected it to.
Also, I’ve just been referred to neurologist for suspected MS.
Hello, I know how painful and annoying is, but no worry your body will throw all the residues of medecins and you will be better, even with an overdose, in your case isn't that much because you find out the problem quickly. 💪 stay strong and be better soon
