I'm going in for a laparoscopy next week and have to ring the evening before to find out what time I need to be there and when to start NBM.
I've read some accounts of what happens during the day but is it usual to be asked to get to the hospital in the morning? If so, when would NBM start? It is a 2hr drive to the hospital so want to be prepared for an early morning drive 😬
Also mentioned I would probably be out that day but obviously depends. My husband will be waiting at his friend's house until I can go, should I tell him to expect a late drive home too?

Your hospital will be able to give you more specific information about timing when you speak to them the day before your surgery. However you might find our publication 'Laparoscopic surgery for endometriosis' helpful endometriosis-uk.org/sites/...
I hope the surgery goes well and you make a speedy recovery
I had to get there for 7:30am last November. Stopped eating by 11pm I think, can’t remember specifics. That’s a trek, are hotels open yet? Wondering if it’s worthwhile staying close night before.
In case they run late take an overnight bag with you just in case. It’s impossible to know what’s going to happen on the day.
Thank you, they did say at preop it may be 0730 to get there but won't know until the evening before.
It will be fine driving early morning, we have childcare sorted and I'll probably drive so husband can still sleep. He'll be staying with friends if I'm not out that night. Bag is in progress - whenever we go anywhere I like to give myself a week to pack as I always seem to forget something 😅 phone charger and headphones a definite - I enjoy listening to music 😊
I was petrified before first lap, didn’t need to have been as they were helpful and knew what they were doing. First lap I’d paid for, I’d say the help re NHS op was better, only difference and advantage was had to be there for 12:30 🤣 so didn’t have to rush.
That’s great he’ll be close by.
Have something baggy for way home and a small cushion for between you and the seatbelt. You won’t get pressure on the area
Hi, I had my first laparoscopy last week- my admission time was 7:45am on the Wednesday and had to stop eating by 1pm on the Tuesday (however I had to do a bowel prep, not sure if you will have to, so may be different) and stop drinking by 6:30am on the Wednesday morning- surgery wasn’t until about 11am. I had to stay overnight for mine but they made that clear from the beginning- it would be worth asking, but they wouldn’t discharge you too late I expect. Good luck, I hope it goes well and you have a quick recovery 😊
