Endo clinics in Hampshire and London

Hello,

I'm currently under the care of a Gynae in Cardiff and just started treatment for endo ( Prostap). We're moving to Hampshire at the end of May and my consultant told me that he can't transfer my care to my nearest hospital in Hampshire, and I'll have to start all over again with a GP referral and I'm not able to remain under the care of a Welsh hospital after I move to England!!

I'm at the beginning of my treatment process and the hospital in Cardiff has a multi disciplinary endo team. I don't want to be referred to a hospital that doesn't offer a multi disciplinary endo clinic.

Does anyone based in Hampshire? If so, any advice on the services that are available?

I've googled it and can see the Southampton, Portsmouth and Winchester hospitals have endo clinics. Thanks in advance.

Hello! I am based in Winchester and was referred to the Royal Hampshire County Hospital - I dealt mainly with their bowel endo surgeon Mr Miles who was fantastic, and have had telephone calls with the gynae Mr Louden (I think also the other gynae early on in my endo journey!). They’re brill and would definitely recommend you get referred there

That's really helpful, thank you. I can see they have a pain management specialist, which is what I need as I'm prescribed strong painkillers for when I have a flare up, and I had a battle getting those prescribed by my GP. We're moving to Petersfield so it's only 20 mins drive to Winchester

Are you already at the Cardiff centre for confirmed severe endo?

Yes, but I'm not able to continue with them after I move.

No you won't be able to but as long as you have confirmed severe endo this is the England Treatment specification that applies. Your GP needs to refer you to an English centre in accordance with this.

Thanks Lindle. I guess my trust is GPs has diminished after the battle I getting referred to Gynae in the first place. I know I shouldn't tar them all with the same brush!

I’m in Hampshire, not far from Portsmouth. Yes, there are BSGE endometriosis centres at the hospitals in Portsmouth, Southampton and Winchester. I had my diagnostic laparoscopy privately in Chichester, West Sussex and have been referred to a private BSGE centre in London for excision surgery, so I haven’t had any personal experience with any of the local BSGE centres. We’re not allowed to discuss consultants here, so I would recommend looking for reviews online and joining the excellent Endometriosis Guidance and Information Resource UK (EndoRevisited) support group on Facebook.
