In my second opinion consultation today the doctor said that I shouldn’t be getting any pain because I’m on the pill, so she doesn’t think it is endometriosis causing my issues. Is this right? (I had superficial endo found and excised from my right uterosacral ligament in a laparoscopy last year and was getting the second opinion because I was concerned something might have been missed and that was the cause of the pain and other classic symptoms and was a bit disappointed. I have been referred to her clinic though to see pain management in the first instance).

The pill supposed to stop endo pain?
Hi, not necessarily my gyno said the pill will just slow down the growth I’m on the pill and I still have pain. She did tell me to go on a stronger pill but I declined, but she never said to me that being on the pill I shouldn’t have pain because it doesn’t actually stop it or cure it x
So hormonal contraceptives can be used to try and mask the symptoms of endo. It doesn't stop endo growing or anything, but can help with coping with symptoms. But because it doesn't mask your symptoms does not mean it isn't endo. It can be an indication that you have deep infiltrating endo. Or even just that it's not the right pill for you (there's so many it's a lottery on what may work for you) You should at a minimum be seen by someone with a specialist interest in endo. And going by what they said about the pill I doubt that they are.
This is what I thought, the frustrating thing is that this doctor is a specialist. I got the feeling it was more because I have had a laparoscopy and they said they trust that doctor’s skill. I suppose at least I will be seen at their centre and maybe then I can have more tests and be properly heard.
Hi I have never been told that the pill stops pain and other symptoms. I am on it and have tried several, they don’t work for me, I still have lots of symptoms relating to endo/adeno. I take strong painkillers when required 🥲Hope the pain management clinic can help you more, never been to one although have a variety of illnesses x
I’ve tried a multitude of hormone treatments to try and avoid the knife. I’ve had pills, coil and I’m currently on my second trial of injections. The first type of injection I was on the gyno sold it to me as the best for endo because it puts the body in to menopause, it was rubbish yes the bleeding was lighter but would continue for weeks, the pain and other symptoms plus additional side affects from the treatment continued every month and she said it couldn’t possibly it’s obviously IBS! I clearly don’t have IBS in my abdominal muscles! I decided it was time for a new gyno. If I were you I’d try another gyno who actually has an interest in endo.
My fertility specialist was actually the best gyno I’d ever seen but unfortunately retired 3 years ago but I did continue to see him between my children and he was great with the management of my symptoms
I also find a low carb diet helps with the pain. It’s been found that carbs can cause inflammation.
Hah! No, I’d get a different doctor. You should join Nancy’s Nook on Facebook and educate yourself on endo. They have sooo many good resources there and I know it equipped me to get proper treatment.
Hi in my experience my gyno said the pill (for me at least) is to stop my bleeding all together. I have both the pill and a mirena and still get pain because of flare ups. Hope this was somewhat helpful.
