URGENT REFERALS TO BSGE

Hey,

I know every part of the UK is different but from your initial consultation how long is the wait (roughly) for your laparoscopy if it's urgent? I'm in Scotland.

xx

They should have told you really after your first consultation at the centre.

It depends, is it life threatening? Is it complex that a plan would need to be put into place!? How long is a piece of string?

First and foremost, BSGE centres also treat malignancy, and they will always be ahead of Endo suffers!

Also, got to remember, they’re still catching up on the backlog!

Personally, I waited 12 months for ‘priority’ surgery, and, now, after almost dying and having an infected ovary adhered to my bowel, I ain’t being rushed! It’s BSGE, more than likely, as you’ve been diagnosed, will try medical treatment first!

My Fallopian tube was wrapped around my bowel, strangling it, and suspending it into my abdomen, I was still forced to try the pill first to see if that helped 🤣.

But, maybe, some clinics are better than others... But having read so many horror stories on here, I highly doubt it 🤣

I hope you get your surgery soon xx

My appointment is in two weeks but I've been under the care of a cardiologist who suspect endo in my lungs, on my diaphragm etc.

The cardioilist and my GP hs pushed the referral to urgent, it will the the BSGE doctors who decide if it's urgent but I was just wanting a rough idea.

If they decide it's urgent as Lindle says, they will give me a time, which is good.

I can't take any pills as we have been trying for a baby, over one year and not successful. So I'm guessing the fertility team will get involved.

Have you got it in scans or are they going off your cardio symptoms? Endo doesn’t need to effect those areas to effect the heart! Many Endo suffers end up under cardiology! I’m not sure if it’s due to the increase in Estrogen, or the Endo itself! But something effects the heart!

They will most certainly give you Zoladex before surgery to lower the surgical risks! If this was cancer, we’d be told we was inoperable, and given chemo to shrink the tumours, then do surgery! The same stands for Endo! If you’re suspected severe, they must shrink the lesions first before excision! Not doing so could be massively risky and make surgery more complicated than it needs to be!

You will almost be sent for fertility run-up but that will likely come after surgery! That’s when I was offered the referral for IVF, even though I wasn’t trying!

Don’t expect 2 weeks and all done! This is BSGE, they are overwhelmed with patients, and because they work in a multidisciplinary team, nothing happens over night unfortunately!

That Gynea you will see, will also have a private clinic! The colorectal guy, or urologist, or heptologist or whoever you need along side the gynea, will also have their own non-Endo clinic, alongside a private clinic! My colorectal surgeon at my last surgery actually practiced at another hospital, within the same trust! He came to my consultants hospital for my surgery!

As you can imagine, it complicates matters! Those who supposedly need the best treatment, ie severe Endo sufferers, actually get the worst! Hence why I pointed out, if you can stay away from BSGE do, because the level of care is poor! It’s unfortunate us with severe disease are forced to use this! Xx
