Really not sure where to go from here - how much has it cost people to go private?

I got diagnosed at 19, almost 10 years ago. I’ve not seen a specialist for almost 5 years as tried to manage it through GP. GP told me to take the pill back to back permanently and just have a break when I bleed.

I changed GP over a year ago and was referred for an ultrasound that showed nothing for Endo but possible bladder problems. Due to covid it’s now been a year before things got moving and the urologist thinks I have a bladder retention problem but possibly related to Endo.

My GP states that taking the pill back to back is not right and on a recent ultrasound they’ve found problems with my ovaries that may affect fertility so I need to see a specialist about my treatment, Endo and for further fertility tests. I also have been diagnosed with IBS but they can’t find any triggers so it could possibly be all related.

The hospital waiting list is 40 weeks?!

I have no idea where to go from here.. I can’t wait 9 months as 3 weeks has already felt like a lifetime... I’ve been trying to keep positive but knowing how long I have to wait has just destroyed me. I’d like to look into private but don’t think I can afford it as surely I need further diagnostic tests?

You should be able to get a quote from your chosen private hospital, I guess it depends where abouts in the country you are. I had a private consult for £130 and a double MRI (abdomen and gynae pelvis, no contrast) was £410. Once you have results you can pass them back to your GP so ongoing treatment could be NHS - obviously you would have to wait your turn, but at least getting diagnostics privately would speed the process up a bit!
