Hi guys, I’ve been referred to gynaecology for possible endometriosis, spoke to them yesterday and they think it is that. Not sure how to feel really, they also want to do a cervix check which I’ve never had as only 21, so pretty terrified, they said they want to check nothing sinister is there as they don’t want a Jade Goody scenario, and that’s kind of scared me!
They’re also suggesting I try the coil. Just wondered if anyone had any advice on any of this, just to help out a scared 21 year old! Thank you! Xxx

Oh gosh, great work Drs for wording an uncomfortable situation so badly! Its actually really positive that they want to check everything to rule the worst case out, at your age I had all the symptoms of endo but also cervical cancer but they wouldn't even consider doing a smear until I was 25...luckily it was fine as I am sure you will be too. For advice I would say just ask loads of questions when you're there, don't feel like you're being silly or taking up thier time. Also try to relax and if the exam is painful tell them to stop ormake them use a smaller speculum (I always have to do this because of the pain)....although that makes their job harder it does make a difference. The coil personally never considered due to the pain I have but I do lots of friends who have it and think its great.Sorry I can't be of more help but just try not to worry and know you aren't alone x
Hi, honestly I know its scary but also important to be thankful that you have a thorough doctor. Even if they worded things badly. You can ask them to use a smaller speculum as there are multiple sizes. Honestly its over in no time. Better to get it done than not.
Everyone respond differently to the coil, some find it great and others don't. You can only decide for yourself based on research. Don't let the horror stories put you off. I believe it can be hard to deal with at first (as all progesterones are) bit it does settle down for some after that.
