Dilators won't stay in??

I had dilators prescribed a while ago and have only just brought myself to use them but I'm confused. I did just research and it seems you're supposed to put the dilator in and leave it in for 20 minutes or so but even the smallest sizes won't stay in. My body just pushes it out instantly so I have to hold it in. I've also had experiences with a speculum basically popping out during an examination where my body has pushed it out. Is this normal??? I'm assuming this is strongly related to the pain i experience with penetration but the smaller sizes of the dilators haven't been hurting, they just simply won't stay in. for longer than a second. Please help, I'm embarrassed and not sure who to ask.

Can you get in contact with whoever prescribed them for you......Don't be embarrassed I'm sure a lot of people have had similar probs....... do you think you might have to build yourself up slowly to the 20 mins?
