Hi, what experience has everyone had with getting results after an MRI?
Was seen in august at the endometriosis clinic and reffered for MRI, prostap and MDT discussion. Had the scan in September, started pro stap the week after and I've heard nothing about my scan results.
Does anyone have any idea how long it should take until I hear something back?
Thanks!

Hi I heard after about 6 weeks but my scan was done over the Christmas period. I would phone your GP and ask for an update as they should have that information on your file. I went to my own GP to discuss the results, didn’t have to go to hospital clinic xx
My consultants med sec has told me that the images or report aren't even available yet which is really irritating I'll try my GP next then as I wasn't aware they would be able to access my reports!
Hi, I worked in MRI for 5 years. The reports are done based on urgency. If something urgent is seen in the scan, the results are done straight away; so it’s kind of comforting if you have to wait a while from that point of view. If a scan is not deemed urgent, it depends then on how many radiographers and consultants there are who are qualified to interpret the scan and give the results. 6 weeks is an average. It is possible to phone your MRI center and ask if the scan had been reported. People used to call us all the time. We could never give out results, but we could tell them if the scan has been reported on and to whom the results have been given. Everything is now electronic and if your GP surgery uses “The Spine” ( NHS computer program) then they can log in and view the results too ( that goes for ultrasound scans, CT scans, X-rays). In many GP surgeries I noticed that only the Practice Manager has access to the Spine and they are often too busy/can’t be bothered to log on each time a patient calls to ask.
As MRI’s are a more specialized scan, usually your consultant will want to view the results with you.
I guess in this time of corona everything is taking longer! Hope you get your results soon.
I have the same issue. Had a scan at the start of October and had to chase for any further information. Due to Covid the earliest appointment I can get for my results and to start any follow up medication is in January!
I'm in the same position! I got my scan at the start of September and so it's been just under 7 weeks now. My gyno's secretary is so hard to get ahold of too but I was able to talk to her once, 3 weeks ago, and she said my gyno had only just received my scan the weekend beforehand.
So now it's been 3 weeks since and I've heard no other update so I got in touch with my GP yesterday and the receptionist was very empathic and said they hadn't received any results themselves. This whole wait is driving me up the wall and my quality of life has been destroyed for months 🤪
