What’s is people’s experience with the Mirena coil?
I’ve had endometriosis for 14 yrs tried most treatments apart from this.
I’ve just had my first baby. Don’t like the idea of having something in me that shouldn’t be there. I’ve also heard a lot of stories about side effects.
Any info would be great good or bad

So I have fibromyalgia and am extremely sensitive to touch and was terrified I would have an issue with it hurting but that part has been okay. I unfortunately have thrombocytosis (blood clotting disorder) so I can’t take the pill anymore. I had a lap 5 months ago and had it put in and I also get monthly lupron injections. I cramped really bad for a few weeks then became less and less. I am still spotting and cramping at 5 months but it’s more like once every 10 days.
Unfortunately ever since I had it put in I got severe dandruff (I’ve always had dryer skin but this is nuts) so bad I had scabs and I’m losing literally a handful of hair every time I shower or brush it.
Please don’t be scared by my reaction as I have a 15 chronic conditions and there’s more at play than just the coil but so far I’m almost at the point of removing it. I would say that it is an excellent option to try for sure. Another option is taking the pill back to back without a break (just makes sure they check your copper levels occasionally as you can end up with copper toxicity.
Have you removed dairy and gluten from your diet? This has helped a lot of my conditions.
I know it doesn’t work for everyone but for me, after suffering for so long and endo affecting every aspect of my life work, relationship, finances, social life etc it has changed my life. I’m on my second it is the best thing I could have done and wish I’d known about it years earlier. Some initial bleeding and discomfort but settled down after a few months. Hope it works for you.
Many congrats on the birth of your baby, that's a success story in itself!
Quite understand your sentiments, I am not a fan of the coil either. But I feel it would not be fair on you to list the negatives as it may just suit you and that's a big positive. 😊 You know your own body so if you are unhappy it can be removed but I believe most GPs like it to be insitu for 6 months before considering removal. Am I correct ladies?
Wish you good luck🍀 and let us know how you get on.
I had the mirena fitted for heavy bleeding, I hadn’t had Endo diagnosed at that time. The first few weeks were painful and I felt sick too. I had had tests and biopsies under a GA when it was fitted so no guarantee it was the mirena making me feel this way. The horrendous periods stopped so definitely an improvement re pain, but I’m much older as I was menopausal. However I also had bladder issues which improved no end once fitted, hormonal it seems rather than anything else.
It worked for me but everyone is different, the radiographer I saw afterwards to check the position said his partner had him ring a consultant to remove the same day due to side effects.
