Endometriosis and survival

I'm 18yrs old and my periods have been painful. But until this year, over the counter meds, could help.

But in January, I had serious and excruciating cramps, it was so painful that even medications couldn't help, and I had to go to the hospital for injections.

And to think that is not enough, every month is worse than the last, sometimes I feel I passing out from the pain.

I explained to my mom and she waved it off as normal cramps and after much persuasion, we went to the hospital.

When the doctor talked about endometriosis and the process of detecting it, she waved it off immediately and instead, I went for ultrascan and urine tests,

Nothing was found in the scan and my urine sample test detected the presence of staphylococcus!

I'm a virgin, I haven't even kissed before, where in hell did that come from?

I was given ciproflaxin tablets and guess what, my period is late for over 10 days.

As if this is not enough, I get spasms of pain in my muscles and I get menstrual cramps if I do a little work, and during those times my hands are shaky and I feel sweaty.

I'm so tired. So tired. No-one understands, my mom says it's the effect of the drugs, and I know fully well that antibiotics does not delay periods!

I don't know what to do.

Hi Tricia141,

Sorry to hear about what you've been going through. Staph infection can be caused through any close contact with others, sharing things like towels, or from sneezes and coughs so it's probably a bit easier to catch than we realise.

The road to diagnosis can be stressful and stress is enough in itself to delay a period. I have provided a link below to an information sheet on our website. It contains helpful information about getting a diagnosis as well as a list of questions you can take to your GP to help with this. Do not be afraid to ask to see a different doctor if you are not getting answers out of your current one. Sadly, many women have to visit multiple drs before they find one to listen.

Wishing you the best.
