hi! since watching halsey’s speech on endometriosis (idk if anyone else has seen it) i’ve realised that this really isn’t normal and it isn’t something i can live with. i was in so much pain my last period that i threw up everywhere and passed out on my bathroom floor (literally shit myself it was disgusting) , i’ve just started this month’s period today and i literally cried because i’m so scared of how bad it’s going to be. it was the worst pain i think i have ever been in. i want to go to the doctors/hospital but reading your replies i don’t think they’ll do anything about it i’ve had painful periods since i was in primary school and i’ve bee to multiple doctors who have just prescribed me with more and more painkillers but surely this can’t be normal?????? i hope everyone is doing okay i am so glad i found this forum because i genuinely thought there was something wrong with me! any advice to deal with the pain would be a lifesaver !!! (also i’m only 17 so none of my doctors will take me seriously)
help? : hi! since watching halsey’s speech... - Endometriosis UK
help?
I’m sorry to hear you going through this, I’m 41 and going through it too. Pain is unmanageable at the min & don’t have periods anymore. Keep pestering your dr until they refer you to a gynaecologist! Don’t give up, I know how hard it is to keep fighting but you mustn’t give up. Also look into going on the pill or marina coil? Wish you the best of luck x
Hello You have endometriosis it’s something that there is no cure I really hope my comments don’t hurt you I can’t imagine being so young going through this.it is your normality no one else’s what your job is to push for it treated and try diet and lifestyle changes you don’t have to live like this !since you are so young you really need to educate your family on what you’ve got so they can try and help you !you would need to have treatment and maybe you need a laparoscopy either now or in the future but to get the support you need you really must educate those close to you I would suggest diet changes as if you catch it early it could be beneficial to you. I could tell you how diet has helped me a lot from pain where I can’t walk to living my life again but the diet is not cheap and as your young you may want family to help you prepare meals etc as it may be different foods your used to please lookup the endometriosis diet for an idea don’t suddenly change but gradually change your eating habits starting with no gluten if you need to chat and have any questions you can message me ,pain killers can be helpful but for me they didn’t touch a nerve I went through so much pain I wanted my life to end I couldn’t look after my children I couldn’t do anything with them you must have some kind of treatment .take care
Hi,
So sorry to hear you are going through this. I went through the same thing at your age. I was put on the contraceptive pill at age 15 to help with my periods and could taken them 3 months continuously without a break which helped a lot.
Have u thought about going on the pill to help with your periods? I would definitely push your GP as no one should have to suffer through painful periods and it isnt normal. Usually they will try u on a contraceptive first and if you are still getting pains, they should refer u to a gynaecologist - this is what happened to me and I was the diagnosed with endometriosis via a diagnostic laparoscopy.
Definitely push your GP as you should not be suffering xx
Hi, please don’t be put off by comments in going to GP. Look on them as giving the ability for you to provide the right information, make notes and have them with you, and have someone for support, whether it’s an initial phone call or visit.
It’s really important to get checked and a referral, age shouldn’t come into it. Look at the NICE guidelines and there are endo clinics for younger women, although quite scarce.
You’ll need to bring up the possibility of endo with the GP. I’d make initial contact with the online form, you can explain all your symptoms and mention endo, that way it’ll be on your record and it can’t be avoided.
Hope you get it sorted soon 😊
Hello there.
I can't speak for others on here but my personal experience with dealing with doctors/consultants has been totally useless. I have done most of my own research. Only my GP suspected Endometriosis in the end based on symptoms and after pushing for further scans and doing a physical examination where he could actually feel the dreaded lumps (he's a good man) but naturally he's not specialised in this area,so can only do so much.
The pain is unbearable, some months better than others and by better i mean i am not curled up crying in bed or wishing to jump off a building, I mean crying and carrying on my daily activities. ><. It really is the worst pain and I've had 4 c sections and a twisted ovary whilst pregnant!. So i feel for you dear.
I've decided against surgery, I don't want anymore surgeries after all those C sections, especially since they keep telling me it has no cure, so why bother putting myself through all those risk only to risk it come back again (sometimes worse) or even end up with something worse like internal bleeding/ perforated organs etc etc, not to mention infections , anaesthesia risks etc. No thanks. Consultants wont operate either because of too much scar tissue, adhesions etc, so at least we've agreed on something!
So i am just trying to manage the pain, hopefully lessen it so bearable levels come period time. This is a long journey and i am just concentrating on getting it under control and i'll worry about cures later.
I am on an anti-inflammatory diet (gluten-free, dairy-free, sugar-free) also no junk or processed foods etc. Turmeric tea, ginger tea, cardamom tea have all been amazing in bringing pain levels down. especially before bed. My hot water bottle is my best friend. Could't survive without it! 2 teaspoons of organic extra virgin Olive oil every morning and every night also helps. Eggs and Coffee are the 2 things I am supposed to stop also but haven't been able to, (love them way too much) So I've just reduced those a lot.
So that's how i deal with mine. Its early days yet ( even though it took me 5 years to even get a diagnosis after constant pushing for scans referrals tests etc!) So although I've only just started tacking it, i have been in pain for far longer. I absolutely DREAD my next period ( so mentally this thing has just taken over my life). I try to keep positive, appreciate my family and life in general and I won't let this thing get me down no matter what. I'll fight till the end.
I hope you feel better and i hope what I've shared can help you, even if a little bit.
Take care and stay safe!
M x
Try 800 mcg of folic acid daily. You should feel a difference esp after 3 months.
