Endo found! Wanting to start anti-hormone injections!

Had lap today and found three areas of Endo. Couldn’t remove as had completely stuck both sides down and too near my urethra, also they found lots of blood left over from my period which she feels is the culprit for causing the Endo. She has suggested anti-hormone injections but said it will cause a menopausal state! I’m only 34 and I’m so unsure about this. They gave me the option of the mirina coil but I refused it and now wish I hadn’t!!! I’m thinking of having the coil fitted now instead of the hormone injections?!

Hello Danielle285, I'm so sorry to hear that you're having such a bad time. I can only share my experiences because I've had both a six month course of Prostap injections and the Mirena Coil.

The Prostap Injections were very, very difficult. (One of the hardest things I've ever faced). In the end, I resigned from my job and took up supply work. (I could then work when I felt up to it and take a break when I wasn't.) I'm 28 and my experience of the menopause was rough, really rough. I became anxious, angry and depressed. I also struggled to sleep and the hot flushes were surprisingly intense. Weight gain (emotional eating). Lost interest in sex and had UTI's because of vaginal dryness. (Warning! Vaginal dryness is miserable and products to help with this are surprisingly expensive). I found it hard to go back for each injection, and I sobbed to the nurse most of the time, but I made it to the end. (Now struggling to re-adjust to hormones).

I started the injections on the day of my laparoscopy and the young doctor actually stood back from my bed and held his hands up (in surrender) warning me about this medication. I agreed to have it because my consultant told me that it was my best chance of healing and conceiving later. However, I continued to have periods until after the third injection...

The coil was fun too! My body rejected the coil three times and I had to go to hospital on one ocassion to have it removed. Passed out in the GP after having it fitted. (Quite embarrassing).

I think, to summarise, both options might be very hard for you and, yet again, they might not be. Either way, endometriosis is a backwards thing which sometimes demands a backwards treatment. (I don't think there's ever a good age for menopausal symptoms or coil fittings).

Hello

What you do is up to you so look at the possible side effects of both carefully to decide which could be better for you. If any, you don't have to take either if you don't want to.

But retrograde menstruation has been disproven for causing endo. As endo feels are pathologically different than the uterine lining that sheds during a period. This personally makes me question if your Dr knows enough to be treating you.

Are you in the UK? As there's specific guidelines that need to be followed for endo. If so I'll give you some information about what your next steps should be etc.

Did they mention Visanne?????? Not available in uk but you get prescription here and collect overseas, my sister sends it from South Africa! It’s the only drug designed for endo. I have been on it a year and wow I can’t believe they only told me about this after zoladex! Best medicine relieved my pain and doesn’t prevent pregnancy. I am currently working on a petition to Bayer on change.org, in Australia and New Zealand they got 75000 signs and won, forcing them to make it available to them. There was a program in uk last year about the young girl who travels to get her visanne but nothing happened after that. Hopefully by telling everyone before they ruin there bodies with drugs that only help for a short period and reduce fertility, I can help avoid what I went through and give someone the chance of having a baby if they want xx big hugs
