Anxious, possibly have endometriosis, would like reassurance

Hi

2 weeks ago I had a transvaginal scan to help find out the reason for long term irregular periods (they've been irregular basically since I started them, just over 10 years)

In the scan they saw my left ovary had many cysts and the right one had one that could possibly be a chocolate cyst/endometrioma. I'll have another scan to check it after about a month.

I have health anxiety generally and this has just kicked it off big time. My fear is cancer. I'm not really that scared of being diagnosed with endometriosis (it's something I've thought I possibly had for a while) but I'm just so nervous it could be something life threatening.

I talked to 2 doctors since the scan and they both reassured me that cysts are very common and they deal with stuff like this all the time. One of them mentioned that the cyst that they think could *possibly* be an endometrioma was about 3mm and he said that they probably wouldn't even perform a surgery on one that size.

I'm also extra nervous because recently I had a little bleeding outside of my period (it was 2 weeks after my last period, so I tried to think "it's just normal bleeding" but it's hard for me to think that way - especially since my periods are almost always so irregular and don't usually happen monthly, more like every few months)

So, has anyone else had a endometrioma or possibly had one? Is it normal that they will rescan me after a month or so? And if it was cancerous, would they have seen something in the transvaginal scan that would have prompted them to do more tests more quickly?

Hi.

So sorry you are anxious and worried. Please try not to worry. Endometriomas are so common with endometriosis and your irregular periods could be due to the cysts on your ovaries. Did they do blood tests a Ca125?

I have been diagnosed recently with a Endometrioma on my left ovary and a cyst on my right. They have done a Ca125 to check for cancer please try not to worry as if they thought it was anything suspicious they would act on it straight away xx

I'm not sure, I had blood tests but I think they were checking for things related to PCOS, and they all came back normal. Do you think I should ask for that blood test? Or do you think that with the scan they would have seen and suggested a blood test if they thought I need one?

I’m sure they will of probably already if tested it for you if they have already take your bloods, but if they haven’t don’t worry because they only test it if the cyst looks suspicious as some cysts are fluid filled and others are solid components. I’m sure if yours looked suspicious a test would of been done like mine was x

When they found cysts on my ovary, they did bloodwork to test for PCOS. In that test they also mentioned the Ca125. Maybe call your GP and ask if you were tested for that. If not, ask for the test to be done. It could put your mind at ease.
