A Little Help Please...

Hi folks, I hope you can help.

I was finally diagnosed with severe endometriosis last Thursday, following a laparoscopy. Also had to have 1 ovary removed and had ablation of the womb lining as consultant originally thought that would resolve the heavy painful periods.

I didn’t think I was doing too bad recovering but I’ve now developed a cough caused by acid reflux which is killing me as can’t sleep when I lie down and constant coughing is making everything hurt more. Also started having horrendous night sweats.

Is this a normal part of recovery or should I be speaking to my GP about it at this stage? I expected the gas, and constipation but this is really making me struggle.

Also consultant has asked me to consider taking progesterone only pill from Feb when I go back to see him, as he thinks my body is producing too much estrogen. I’ve tried this before without success, and basically bled for the whole time I was on it, are there any alternatives?

Many thanks for your help, feeling abit sorry for myself at the moment and not sure what to do next.

Was this a diagnostic lap as part of a treatment plan at a specialist endo centre as severe endo must only be treated in a tertiary specialist centre? Presumably not much work was done - do you know why the ovary was removed as the usual thing would be to drain and strip out the cyst capsule at this stage then plan the main excision?

Hi, thanks for your response. This was a diagnostic laparoscopy, I didn’t know for definite I had endometriosis until the surgery (although had all the symptoms) and then is was a lot worse than the consultant expected.

Ovary was taken out as it was impossible to separate from cysts and lesions. Also had as much endometriosis as possible lasered away so there was some treatment, not just a review to diagnose the condition. In surgery 3 hours in total.

Wasn’t treated at a specialist centre, had to wait 12 months for this surgery, and couldn’t push for a specialist without a diagnosis which wasn’t helpful.

Any advice you can give would be appreciated.
