I’ve been reading some posts on here about seeing an endometriosis specialist. How did you guys go about being referred to one of these? I’ve been on the BSGE website and found my nearest is not in my area. I’m in West Yorkshire but my closet is Lancashire. How does it work asking to go outside of your area? I’m struggling with a lot of pain following a laparoscopy which was done to remove my Fallopian tubes but they found extensive endometriosis and pelvic inflammatory disease. My concern is I didn’t have this pain before the surgery. I’m getting very disheartening and struggling with day to day tasks

How to get referred to an endometriosis specialist?
Thank you for your response. That’s very helpful. It’s all been a very weird situation. I was literally just discharged back to my gp with a letter stating what had been done and found and that I may qualify for free nhs ivf treatment. Which was ok until my pain continued post op, I have continued pain in my lower abdomen n above my right hip. I’ve been prescribed naproxen, paracetamol and codeine via my gp. I’ll go back to my gp to discuss being referred back to gyne, it’s just I’m not very impressed with the gyne care I’ve had so far and wondered if I’d benefit from a specialist instead.
Thank you for this information. It’s very helpful. I do feel a bit in the dark as because like I said the laparoscopy was to investigate my Fallopian tubes and they ended up removing both and finding endometriosis but they seem to be focusing on the fact I was referred due to fertility concerns but have never really addressed the Endo. When I went for my post op follow up with the gyne consultant it was very quick- we removed both tubes, we found pid and Endo, see ur gp to start the ivf referral. See ur gp for pain relief. Goodbye. I was shocked and just left.
Anyway. I’ll look into this info I’ve provided before talking to my gp regarding my concerns etc
Just joined. Thank you
Hello,
Sorry you are not been supported. I am in West Yorkshire too and still waiting for referral to BSGE centre. There is a centre in Wakefield though: midyorks.nhs.uk/endometriosis
It states on the website if you have already been diagnosed with severe endo you should get a referral automatically from your GP. I don’t think this routinely happens for anyone.
I had to be extremely persistent with my GP to to the point of him starting to get annoyed at the sight of me! I demanded a referral as I had a Lap and large endometrioma removed in Dec 2018 and I have fertility issues. My referral to gynocology was through NHS fertility unit and I know what you mean about them not really looking at the whole picture I.e sorting out endo as well as fertility at same time.
I have eventually got the ball rolling to make an appointment but my GP selected general gyne at Wakefield because apparently the centres don’t even come up on their system!
There is just no awareness in GPs sadly. Lucky for me I am not bad with symptoms currently and have found a private clinic for IVF. Also been doing a fairly strict diet (reduced gluten dairy etc since Dec which seems to be helping)
Good luck with everything x
