Should I have a follow up appointment?

I had my first laparoscopy on 4th October and was diagnosed with Endometriosis. It was stated in my discharge notes that three spots of endometriosis were found on the left uterosacral ligament. Two of these were excised and sent for histology. The other was diathermised.

The doctors saw me before the operation and said they would not be able to come and see me after the surgery or before I was discharged. They said that whatever they did or didn’t find would be in my discharge notes. I have not heard anything or had a letter regarding a follow up appointment. Should I be having one? I have a lot of questions as this is all new to me and I don’t know what happens next, if anything.

I am seeing my GP this afternoon so will ask their advice too. I had my surgery under Dr Gupta at Stepping Hill Hospital in the North West.

Hi Hayley,

I had a follow up appointment a month after my surgery. The surgeon and another doctor who was present during the op saw me the same day I had the surgery (at different times) to explain what they did but that was a bit of a blur because I think the general anaesthetic was still wearing off. I think it's bad that no one saw you afterwards.

Were you discharged on the same day of your op? I guess it depends on how busy they are on the day, but I would still expect some form of follow up. Definitely ask for an appointment so that they can answer all your questions. What did your GP say?
