I started the depo provera injection last month and have been bleeding (not heavily) for about a week and a half now.
I understand that this is normal for the depo (I've been on it before) but today I had a massive clot of period blood that looked more like a piece of meat than anything else. It was thick and dark and didn't break/burst when it was on the toilet paper. (sorry if anyone finds this graphic)
I completely freaked out and flushed it down the toilet as I've never had this before.
My period pains have also been exceptionally bad today.
I understand that endo is more likely to produce heavy clotting but it looked more like my uterus was attempting to kill itself (can't say I blame it).
Has anyone had any experience with heavy clotting or similar issues to this? If so, does anyone have any remedies for this?

It's not something I've personally had but I've read about it on other forums it sounds like a decidual cast. I don't have much more information on it other than the name but that should help you search for other posts about it which should lead you to some more answers.
I just googled it and it turns out some people get them with progesterone methods of contraception (which the injection is) so I can stop panicking now 😅 I wasn't certain if it was to do with endometriosis... But thank you for this!
Hi, I had the same thing a few weeks ago and can confirm it’s a decidual cast. It looks scary as all hell though!
It shouldn’t be anything to worry about but mention it to your dr next time you see them. My gynae took me off the pill after it happened so I could just go back to my regular cycles for a while before getting the coil.
