Anyone done prostap and not taken hrt?

Hi..

I'm on 3 weeks into 2nd round of prostap, during my first round I was given livial, this didn't suit me so I was moved to kilovance, this still didn't suit but I just carried on with it.

I gained weight, still had hot flushes, insomnia, suffered badly with my mental health, I was like a walking time bomb, exploding intermittently.

Anyway, fast forward 9 months and here I am again, I started taking the kilovance as directed but found that I became depressed and moody pretty fast, so I did the only thing that I could do, which was to stop the hrt, I'm still not 100% but even after a week off it I feel better, the hot flushes are worse but hey, at least winter is coming.. My family can huddle around me to keep warm and I'll save on the heating!

So can prostap be done without hrt? Does anyone recommend a hrt that is less horrific?

I go for my next injection on Friday and I'm half expecting them to refuse treatment if I'm not on the hrt.

I do also have coeliac disease, and have been told that I may be at risk of osteoporosis.

Thanks

Roo

First time I had prostap without hrt, I wasn’t even offered it. I suffered bad with the flushes, mood swings, body aches and lack of sleep. Second time around I requested hrt and was given livial. It helped with the flushes and sleeping but I still had really bad mood swings, so bad that I threw a chair at my friend. Crazy I know but I suffer with depression quite bad at times, so I tried herbal tablets St. John’s wart and that helped me. Maybe speak to your GP and find out what options you’ve got before you go in Friday x

Given the recent study on how hrt can affect you they may be more supportive of your choice, I would speak to them about alternative options and look around for natural menopause relief.

I took prostrap for 3mts...consultant never even mention hrt supplements to me. So it def can be prescribed without hrt. Same as u I had terrible hot flushes only saving Grace was they always hit at night. Impossible to sleep! I still gained weight and to this day can not shift it . The only pain I have with my Endo is back pain, prostrap didn't make any Endo symptoms worse but took an additional 3mts for my periods to return.. if we weren't desperate to get pregrant I would have see this as a positive!! My memory whilst taking this medication was terrible, I would just stop mid sentence unable to find my words or remember people's names! My GP assured me this was normal but I felt terrible as I had just started a new job and felt like people would think I was a total airhead!! Overall i could handle the physical effects of this medication but I think mentally it did challenge me.. I have no idea if things would have been different with hrt and never ever want to take this again to find out either way!

It's definitely the mental side of me that it's affecting.. I'm very forgetful, it's like being in another reality, almost like there is a veil between me and everyone else.. It's weird cause I said never, ever again, after what I went through on my first round, but when consultant offered it again, I was like, hell no! Hubby was saying oh that's great, you did so well on it last time lol.. I'll see what they say on Friday.. Luckily the pain is at least subsiding now, only problem now is, I've got to come off the pain killers and that thought make me panic

Hello RoobieDoobie,

Similar to Laura T, I’ve had Prostap twice and a therapeutic dose of HRT that suited me was a must second time around (sadly it took a lot of side effects and adjusting HRT brands and doses to work that out.

My body does not react well to synthetic progesterone so (after unpleasant experiences with Kilovance and Livial which both contain that) taking Bio-Identical HRT. It was prescribed by a private specialist first, but my GPs then prescribed it to me on the NHS. It more closely resembles your body’s natural hormones, but it is pricier so harder to get prescribed unless you’ve tried other HRT options which haven’t worked out. I found Bio-Identical HRT was much more effective at suppressing Prostap’s hypoestrogenic side-effects without as many side effects as synthetic HRT.

Might be worth investigating?

Thanks for all of your replies.

I had my appointment yesterday, had my 2nd injection and the biggest telling off of my life.. Apparently I need the hrt to protect my bones.

Nurse was lovely though, very understanding, she thinks that the injection is causing my low mood, perhaps made a bit worse by the hrt and that it's just a case of finding the right one.

She told me to see my gp and get a new hrt and ask for an antidepressant as well to help get me through.

GP has given me femoston conti and sertraline.

Got to keep taking the codeine while I start on these new meds and start to reduce the codeine gradually.

Took the hrt and sertraline last night, didn't sleep at all, felt like I had spiders in my legs and like I was intermittently being set on fire!

Feel very dizzy and sick this morning and like I'm half a turn behind the rest of the world.

Hoping it gets better

This damn disease is ruining my life!
