Hello all, so I'm in the early stages of Endometrioma diagnosis, I have 3 cysts in my ovaries that need removing and suspected Endo on my bladder. So far I have had the ultrasound scan and AMH Test (no results yet though) through the NHS and I am waiting on an MRI in July.
I have been given the advice sheets on Zoladex injections that my Dr would like to put me on before my operation...my question is why do I have to have these injections? Is it to make the operation easier? To minimise my pain? I'm just so confused everything in my body is telling me not to do it...help!!

Zoladex is a GnRH analogue which causes the body to mimic menopause. GnRH analogues stop the ovaries from being stimulated and stop the woman from producing oestrogen. Therefore, the endometrium and endometriosis may not grow. It is sometimes given to women prior to surgery to try and reduce the amount of endometrial tissue. It may make the surgery easier if there is less tissue. Some women find relief from pain also.

Hi, I have been given the same treatment. No one had told me about the Zoladez injections at my consultant appointment. After consulting with 3 private (top surgeons worldwide) all 3 do not advocate this approach. I am going to refuse the Zoladex personally as I have enough on my plate without added side effects and messing up my hormones and cycle. It is really up to you and what feels right. Just know it is not the practice that all surgeons do, so seek out another if this isnt what you want. I cant see many who have taken the injection and not suffered awful side effects. If you are happy to go through the side effects then it may be ok for you.
The short answer is no! You do not have to have any treatment you don't want. No doctor can make you do anything or even be examined.
If you have concerns, I'd suggest seeing your doctor again to discuss and go from there.
Zoladex has helped me a lot with pain and symptoms post surgery as I've never got properly better despite several operations. It can also shrink endometriosis.
However some surgeons believe it can mask how bad the endometriosis is if given before the operation. Medics often disagree in my long experience.
