Lap ? Can you get a hernia

So I had an operative lap, due to small bowel obstruction. This was secondry to adhesions. I've had 3 weeks off now but one of the port hole sides is still painful, if I sneeze or cough or twist in a particular way. So I'm wondering if you can get a hernia from surgery?

Many thanks x

Three weeks is not enough time to recover and sneezing with abdominal stitches is horrible! I had my lap over three month a ago now and get the occasional pain where my incisions were and a lot more in my belly button if I lie a certain way. Just take it easy x

Yes absolutely. I got an incisional/umbilical hernia as a result of my lap. Now I am waiting on another operation to repair it.

As the other lady said however it is too soon to be worrying about this. It will take time for your body to heal and from what I have read incisional hernias after laps are quite rare.

Good luck!
