Help! I am at a loss

Hi guys,

I am so stressed and at a loss what to do! Basic backstory. Had the coil inserted April 2018 they perforated my womb in surgery whilst putting it in. Had a lap to remove in July followed by complications resulting in a stay in hospital.

Fast forward to my new consultant who wanted to insert the coil whilst doing other bits inside. As I didn’t want to seem like I was refusing treatment I agreed and expressed my concerns regarding the previous experience I had. Tuesday just gone I was put to sleep and the end result was the coil being inserted again. Afterwards I’ve felt the same pain and experienced the same symptoms I had previously. I had a prebooked appointment with my GP today for something different and expressed my concerns and explained that I felt as though I was being over cautious due to previous experience however I can’t ignore the similarity in symptoms. GP understood and examined to find the coil but unfortunately was unable to locate it. She has said that her not being able to locate it and feel anything is concerning and shouldn’t be the case and has now referred me for a scan. I did explain that I can’t live with this pain for 3 months like I did last time as it threw my life into turmoil. She expressed that if the symptoms get worse I need to see the docs at the hospital to get scanned quicker. So basically that leaves me with this...

Has anyone else had perforation during inserting the coil? And what’s the chances of it being there but GP not being able to locate it?

Sorry for the long post I am just worried that it’s history repeating itself and what I went through before wasn’t nice.

My consultant said I have a ‘small womb’ not too sure what this means but he did explain that’s what had happened before so is there a chance it could happen again? All I do know for sure is I can’t be in this much pain.

Thank you,

R xo

When I had my second laparoscopy they went to insert the coil but it perforated my uterus so they took it back out there and then. This was down to my uterus being to small for it to comfortably sit, some people naturally have a smaller uterus think of it like having smaller feet. So with this in mind me and my consultant decided it wasn’t worth trying to insert again so I’ve gone back to the depo injection. This hadn’t worked with my symptoms before my lap but after all the excision I’m much better off and get far less pain and the depo does work.

I have had to go back in and see my consultants understudy due to a swelling and pain around my bellybutton scar and when she suggested the marina coil I straight up said I will not have it as there is no point as I’m to small. If you know your body and/or you have a good consultant who explains all the details for you do not feel pressured into getting anything done.

I would request and urgent appointment with the hospital you can do this through your GP, the surgeon secretary or PALS and get it removed. If it has re-perforated your uterus it puts you at an increased risk of uterine rupture particular if you are looking to conceive at any point in the future.

Thank you very much for replying! My concern is last time they didn’t believe me and it took 3 months for them to realise and remove it & it appears this time they are in no rush to sort things as she said to me I’ll refer you for an US but we’ll see how you are at your 6 week check to which I responded I can’t do this for 6 weeks and her advice was if it’s so bad go to hospital. I feel like I’m wasting their time if I go. Sorry I don’t know what a uterine rupture is could you explain?

A rupture is where the hole (perforation) or in this case two holes rip open. This usually happens in the final trimester of pregnancy but can also occur naturally from over exerting like moving.

You should really go to the hospital, you won’t be wasting there time if your sure something isn’t right it’s there job to check. People go to the hospital for silly things like broken toes or a bad cough, endometriosis is a chronic illness to be taken seriously especially if in this case there’s a risk of further damage.
