Pre-laparoscopy: what to ask my surgeon?

Hi all,

Looking for some advice, I finally have a scheduled laparoscopy (a year after referral). Had my pre assessment today - bloods, blood pressure, weight etc. and appointment booked with surgeon week before the op... anything I should specifically ask?

Would greatly appreciate any advice! Also any advice regarding after care? I really hope I’m not flat out - I’m pretty active normally and am one of those rare people who love their job so I’d love to get back to it as soon as!

Thank you xx

Hi there I've had 2 laparascopys and they have both been vastly different. First was just for diagnosis and I was back on my feet one week later and at work 2 weeks later. Had my 2nd one 2 weeks ago and have been signed off for 6 weeks as it was way more invasive! So find out from your Dr what to expect. Ask if it's day surgery or overnight? Aftercare, I needed blood thinning injections and had to remove stitches. Pain relief to go home with. Stitches/wound care. When you can drive etc. Hope this helps xx

Hey Kelsey, thanks so much for your reply! I’ve been told I’m just a day case by the pre assessment staff so fingers crossed! That’s great your first one meant you returned to work after two weeks, I’m hoping for something similar - fingers crossed! xx

I had my laparoscopy at the beginning of January and was back at work after a week with minimal pain and discomfort. I have stage 3 endo and had one cyst drained and cauterised and one removed from the othed ovary. One of my ovaries had to be released from my pelvic wall and I also had quite a lot of lesions removed from my tubes. I took Arnica tablets for a few days after the surgery and I'm pretty sure they helped. Take big knickers with you and trousers with a stretchy waistband. Good luck!

Thanks so much marmite! I’m already on the case with the big pants and on the hunt for some fashionable stretchy pants! Zara’s saving me at the mo. That’s great you had fairly minimal discomfort for what sounds like a pretty big op! I’m going to look into arnica tablets and allllll the supplements to hopefully aid a speedy recovery. Thank you for your reply xx
