Contraceptive injection

Hello all,

I just wondered if anyone has had the injection and whether you put on any weight with the first one? Andnwhether it stopped your bleeding?

I had two courses of Depo Provera shots a few years apart.

The first time I had no bleeding, no pain and lots of energy. I felt great.

The second time my periods lasted 2 months each; I was in pain all the time; I became anaemic and I was completely exhausted all the time.

I did gain a lot of weight as well but this may be due to poor diet and lack of exercise because of the lengthy periods rather than the injections themselves.

The main reason I had to stop was memory loss. It is like my past has been erased. One neurologist I saw thought this was caused by stress. The other thought it was caused by the Depo injections. Studies in America indicate Depo may cause irreversible memory loss.

Lastly I felt very low on the second course of depo and regularly thought of suicide.

So you see weight gain is not the only consideration.

Hi Olivia, yes I was on this on and off for 3 years. Worse thing I ever did! Gained 4 stone, and the mood swings were unreal! Get off it ASAP! Iv not had a period since may 2015,came off it in June 2018.never again, avoid this drug

Thanks for your reply! Oh god, no I don’t want any of that to happen. I’ve only had my first one so I’m hoping that I won’t put on any weight. Then I will just let it run out and not go back for another one! Thanks for the info. Hope you sorted things

Just letting my body rebalance on no contraception currently. The depo really messes u up
